Summary The investigation of the taste buds in the tongue of the neotene Mexican axolotl (Siredon mexicanum) by light and electron microscopy demonstrates 4 different cell types: 1) R-cells, marginal cells of less differentiated character. 2) G-cells, granulated cells in basal position. 3) Cells of type A with fibrills, vesicular elements, and dark bodies, showing supporting and secretory function. 4) Cells of type B with an agranular endoplasmic reticulum in stripe like arrangement, supposed to be receptor cells.

Avian sarcoma virus Y73 genome sequence and structural similarity of its transforming gene product to that of Rous sarcoma virus

From the complete nucleotide sequence of the genome of the avian sarcoma virus Y73, we have predicted amino acid sequence of p90 gag-yes, the product of the transforming gene. Contrary to previous evidence from molecular hybridization studies p90 gag-yes was found to have much homology with the transforming gene product p60 src of Rous sarcoma virus, suggesting that the cellular counterparts of the two (c-yes and c-src) originated from a common prototype sequence.     

Comparison of the localization of several muscle proteins in relaxed and contracted myofibrils.

The localization of several muscle proteins in relaxed and contracted myofibrils is compared. The morphology of the myofibrils and the behavior of these proteins was also investigated under extraction conditions.     

A simple procedure for removal of intra- and extra-tumoral macrophages from primary tumor cultures

Summary Improved growth of tumor cells in primary cell suspensions isolated from solid tumors can be achieved by addition of an antifungal agent, mycostatin, to the culture medium. Mycostatin inhibits the cytotoxicity of macrophages and also quickly detaches phagocytes without any apparent retardation of the growth of tumor cells. This method is particularly useful for obtaining cultures of lung tumor cells or cells from lung metastases of other tumors.This research was supported in part by grants CA-22839 and CA-28482 awarded by the National Cancer Institute, DHEW, USA. Does nitrogen mustard mimic the X-ray effects in any case?

Résumé Les effets de l'ypérite nitrée sur le cerveau et yeux de l'embryon du rat blanc ont été analysés. Seulement les embryons présentant un aspect normal ont été coupés et colorés. De larges centres de nécrose ont été trouvés sur les coupes tandis que les «rosettes» n'ont pas pu être décelées.Bien que connue comme radiomimétique, l'yperite nitrée ne mime pas les rayons X en ce qui concerne la formation des «rosettes» dans le cerveau.
