Pistia stratiotes L. in Nigerian waters

Summary Pistia stratiotes L., a perennial water weed found in natural water bodies in Nigeria, removes organic and inorganic nutrients as it grows and spreads in the waters. In a lake which received a variety of pollutants, the plant reduced oxidizable organic matter (4-h permanganate value) by 61%, the biochemical oxygen demand by 85.3%, ammonia nitrogen by 95.3% and water soluble phosphorus by 85%. The plant also removed other mineral matter.

Résumé L'analyse histochimique comparée des neurones des Reptiles, des Oiseaux et des Mammifères révèle que les divers corps qui y sont inclus ont une histochimie identique. Les sphéroïdes lipides abondent dans les phospholipides des jeunes neurones qui sont transformés en corps triglycérides chez les adultes. Les corps lipides ne sont pas un produit de sécrétion de l'appareil canaliculaire de Golgi dont l'homologue a été observé seulement dans les neurones adultes. La substance de Nissl est pleine de RNA.

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine neue, sehr einfache Methode zur Erzeugung parabiotischer, 12–24 h lang lebensfähiger Fliegenpaare (Musca domestica L.) beschrieben.

Zusammenfassung Es wird über die Isolierung und Charakterisierung von Inhaltsstoffen, vermutlich Steroide, aus einer indischen Pflanzenart,Alangium lamarckii, berichtet. Medizinische Zubereitungen aus dieser Pflanze werden für verschiedene Indikationen, z.B. auch antiinflammatorische, verwendet.

Zusammenfassung Paradoxurus hermaphroditus Männchen habenXY Geschlechtschromosomen, im Unterschied zu den ungewöhnlichenXO Männchen vonHerpestes auropunctatus. Beide Species gehören zu der Familie Viverridae der Ordnung Carnivora und demonstrieren die Robertsonsche Chromosomen-Evolution in Zahl und Struktur.
