The binding of tritiated dexamethasone to lymphocytes of normal and leukemic subjects]

Specific binding sites for 3H-dexamethasone, possessing the characteristics of glucocorticoid receptors, were demonstrated in normal human circulating lymphocytes. The number of glucocorticoid receptors was found different from normal in half of the acute or chronic lymphoid leukaemias studied. A correlation between the number of glucocorticoid receptors and the therapeutical benefit of the glucocorticoid administration will be performed, including these preliminary observations.

Zusammenfassung Antibiotikum U-22324 ist ein zyklisches Peptid, das aus Kulturflüssigkeit vonTrichoderma viride isoliert wurde. Das Peptid hat die Aminosäurenzusammensetzung (GluN)₂(Glu)₁(Pro)₂(Gly)₁(Ala)₂(Dimethyl ala)₈(Val)₂(Leu)₁.     

In vivo and in vitro incorporation of 3H-thymidine in the uterus of the rabbit during pseudopregnancy

During pseudopregnancy in the Rabbit the DNA synthesis in the uterine epithelium is very reduced. These results conjoined with the decrease of the mitotic index and previous ultrastructural observations allow to think that multinucleated cells proceed mainly by cell fusion.     

Increased liver calcium after calcium or milk gavage in rats

Summary For 1 or 2 h following a gavage of milk or 300 mM CaCl₂ (2 ml/100 g b.wt), rats had an increased liver calcium content when compared to rats receiving a deionized water gavage.Supported in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation (PCM 75-23603). Bone marrow cells adopt the phenotype of other cells by spontaneous cell fusion

Recent studies have demonstrated that transplanted bone marrow cells can turn into unexpected lineages including myocytes, hepatocytes, neurons and many others. A potential problem, however, is that reports discussing such 'transdifferentiation' in vivo tend to conclude donor origin of transdifferentiated cells on the basis of the existence of donor-specific genes such as Y-chromosome markers. Here we demonstrate that mouse bone marrow cells can fuse spontaneously with embryonic stem cells in culture in vitro that contains interleukin-3. Moreover, spontaneously fused bone marrow cells can subsequently adopt the phenotype of the recipient cells, which, without detailed genetic analysis, might be interpreted as 'dedifferentiation' or transdifferentiation.     

Re-evaluation of the role of hypovolemia on the release of renin

Résumé Les auteurs ont comparé l'effet d'hémorragies progressives et de diurétiques (acide éthacrynique, furosémide) sur l'activité rénine plasmatique. Pour des déplétions volémiques comparables, l'élévation de l'activité rénine plasmatique est plus grande après diurétiques qu'après hémorragie. Le rôle stimulant d'une hypovolémie sur la sécrétion de la rénine est de ce fait critiqué.
