A disc-electrophoresis investigation of certain characteristics of Triton X-100 solubilized proteins from malePeriplaneta americana

Resumen Un agregado de proteínas solubilizadas en Triton X-100 fue resuelto como una banda por electroforesis a un pH de 8.5. En un pH de 7.1 estas fracciones no demuestran el efecto de agregación. Solamente electroforesis conTris/glicina como amortiguador y concentraciones del detergente menor de 0.6% dieron resultados.     

Insect defences: taste alteration and endoparasites

Taste sensation and food selection by animals can change adaptively in response to experience, for example to redress specific nutrient deficiencies. We show here, in two species of caterpillar, that infection by lethal parasites alters the taste of specific phytochemicals for the larvae. Given that these compounds are toxic to the parasites and are found in plants eaten by the caterpillars, their changed taste may encourage parasitized caterpillars to increase consumption of plants that provide a biochemical defence against the invaders.

The quantitative nature of the reaction between aminoglycoside and polymyxin class antibiotics with polyanionic detergents

Summary Using classical tube and gel precipitation techniques aminoglycoside and polymyxin class antibiotics were found to quantitatively react with polyanionic detergents.     

Beta-endorphin in normozoospermic and pathologic human semen

beta-Endorphin was estimated in normozoospermic, oligozoospermic and azoospermic human semen. The mean amount in normozoospermic specimens was 278.6 +/- 43.6 (SE) pg/ml while in the others only 191.1 +/- 25 pg/ml. Both values are significantly higher than those present in the blood.
