Detection of fibrillary bodies in human and experimental leukemias by polarizing microscopy]

An optical polarizing microscope with a good coefficient of extinction permits the visualization of the cytoplasmic fibrillar body in living preparations and smears of leukemic cells (human leukemias and the L 5222 experimental leukemia). These inclusions are not visible by phase contrast microscopy nor in fixed and stained smears.     

Electron microscope observation of "thyroidectomy cells" in the hypophyseal ventral lobe of a Chondrichthyan fish, the small spotted dogfish, Scyllium canicula Cuv.]

In the adenohypophysis of very young spotted dogfish, only one kind of granulated cells show strcutural changes following thyroidectomy: the small granule cells of the ventral lobe (granule diameter about 110 nm). These cells are similar to the thyrotrophs of other Vertebrates, and well distinct from the supposed gonadotrophs found in the same lobe.     

Modification of the action of pentagastrin on acid secretion by botulinum toxin

Summary I.v. botulinum toxin after 60–90 min abolished the dose-response relationship between pentagastrin and gastric acid secretion in anesthetized rats and guinea-pigs. The toxin reduced but did not abolish the acid stimulatory effect of histamine. As expected, the acid response to vagal stimulation was abolished and that to methacholine in rats was unaltered by the toxin.Acknowledgment. We are grateful to the generosity of Dr Edward J. Pressor and oxitocic-like effects of angiotensin affected by aldosterone pretreatment in guinea-pigs

Résumé Les auteurs examinent l'augmentation de l'action de l'angiotensine sur la pression carotidienne et sur la contraction utérine chez des animaux traités avec de l'aldostérone. Ils pensent aussi que le traitement conditionne le développement du phénomène taquiphylactique de l'angiotensine.

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die kardiotonischen Wirkungen sechs neuer Derivate von 14-Deoxy-14H-digitoxigenin und 14-Deoxy-14-chloro-digitoxigenin auf das isolierte Froschherz untersucht, sowie die Beziehungen zwischen deren chemischen Strukturen und Wirkungen diskutiert.

A quantitative difference in the immune response to sheep red cells between rat strains

Résumé Des rats appartenant à plusieurs souches ont été immunisés par injection i.p. de 2×10⁸ globules rouges de mouton. La mesure du titre des haemolysines réalisée 6 jours plus tard montre des différences quantitatives selon les souches. Une réponse importante n'a pu être décelée que pour 3 d'entre elles (August, OFA et Wistar R).
