Guaranteed‐content prediction intervals for non‐linear autoregressions

In this paper we present guaranteed‐content prediction intervals for time series data. These intervals are such that their content (or coverage) is guaranteed with a given high probability. They are thus more relevant for the observed time series at hand than classical prediction intervals, whose content is guaranteed merely on average over hypothetical repetitions of the prediction process. This type of prediction inference has, however, been ignored in the time series context because of a lack of results. This gap is filled by deriving asymptotic results for a general family of autoregressive models, thereby extending existing results in non‐linear regression. The actual construction of guaranteed‐content prediction intervals directly follows from this theory. Simulated and real data are used to illustrate the practical difference between classical and guaranteed‐content prediction intervals for ARCH models. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Properties of bovine interferons

Summary This study was done in an attempt to elucidate some of the properties of bovine IFNs. Maximum levels of both fibroblast and leukocyte IFNs occurred prior to 24 h whereas maximum levels of immune IFN were not reached until after 72 h. The latter species of IFN was unstable at either pH 2 or 56°C whereas both the fibroblast and leukocyte IFNs were more stable under these conditions. Studies of cross-species protection between fibroblast and leukocyte IFNs indicate that the former was more protective for other species than the latter.Supported in part by National Institutes of Health Biomedical Research Support Grant RR05773-08.     

TheDictyostelium cytoskeleton

New avenues of cytoskeleton research inDictyostelium discoideum have opened up with the cloning of the - and -tubulin genes and the characterization of kinesins and cytoplasmic dynein. Much research, however, continues to focus on the actin cytoskeleton and its dynamics during chemotaxis, morphogenesis, and other motile processes. New actin-associated proteins are being identified and characterized by biochemical means and through isolation of mutants lacking individual components. This work is shedding light on the roles of specific actin assemblies in various biological processes.
