Photosynthesis characteristics of three species of forages in the arid-hot valleys

By using TPS-1 portable photosynthesis measuring system, the photosynthesis characteristics of three kinds of high quality forages used in the arid-hot valley eco-agricultural models in Yuanmou were measured. The paper shows that Pennisetum purpureum Schumach is the heliophilous shade tolerance C4 plant and Styiosanthes guianensis is the heliophilous shade tolerance plant, both of them could make full use of the light energy under the weak light environment and have relatively strong CO2 assimilation capacity. Cajanus cajan（L.） Millspaugh is the strong heliophilous plant with high requirement for light and has a relatively weak CO2 assimilation capacity. Generally, these three kinds of high quality forages are drought resistant and show a relatively good adaptability to the arid-hot valley environment. To improve cultivation administration level and to interplant timely in the forest can be helpful to the ecological niche and to improve the productivity force.     

Application of the concepts of neural network and tree structure in rare earth separations

The concepts of neural network and tree structure are introduced to rare earth separations. The recursive relations and analytical expression for calculating the possible flow sheets and processes are derived in multicomponent systems based on dichotomy. As an example, the application of the concepts is elucidated in detail in a separation of light rare earths containing La, Ce, Pr and Nd in the HEH(EHP)-HCl system. The results show that this method is beneficial to summarizing and classifying the flow sheets and processes in rare earth separations, and is essential to the optimization of separation flow sheets. It can also be applied to the separation into group situations and other similar cases, too.

Ecological benefits of compound ridge culture in hillside orchard in the Three Gorge Reservoir Area

Based on contour tillage of wide ridge and furrow covering and agro-forestry, this paper sets up a compound ridge culture mode in hillside orchards and introduces a long-term observation to the mode＇s effects on ecological benefits of water and soil conservation. A five-year study shows that compound ridge culture in hillside orchards is effective in water and soil conservation, especially in reducing soil erosion. Compared with the traditional management modes of orchards, compound ridge culture has reduced runoff amount by 41.96%-57.96%, soil erosion amount by 55.47%-67.75%. Compound ridge culture also brings an obvious reduction of soil nutrient loss and of non-point source pollution, which is of great importance for keeping and increasing the productivity of hillside orchards in the Three Gorge Reservoir Area.     

Thyroid hormone receptor-mediated regulation of the methionine adenosyltransferase 1 gene is associated with cell invasion in hepatoma cell lines

The thyroid hormone T₃ regulates differentiation, growth, and development. We demonstrated that methionine adenosyltransferase 1A (MAT1A) was positively regulated by T₃ identified by cDNA microarray previously. The expression of the MAT1A was upregulated by T₃ in hepatoma cell lines overexpressing thyroid hormone receptors (TRs). Additionally, these findings indicate that MAT1A may be regulated by CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP). The critical role of the C/EBP binding sites was confirmed by the reporter or chromatin immuno-precipitation (ChIP) assay. In addition, C/EBP was upregulated in hepatoma cells after T₃ treatment and ectopic expression of MAT1A inhibited cell migration and invasion in J7 hepatoma cells. Conversely, knockdown of MAT1A expression increased cell migration. Together, these findings suggest that the expression of the MAT1A gene is mediated by C/EBP and is indirectly upregulated by T₃. Finally, TR was downregulated in a small subset of hepatocellular carcinoma cells concomitantly reduced the expression of C/EBPα and MAT1A.
