Peristaltic constrictions in fertilized barnacle eggs (Pollicipes polymerus)

Résumés La vitesse et l'amplitude des resserrements péristaltiques dans les ufs fertilisés de balane (Pollicipes polymerus) dépend de l'âge de l'embryon et de la position du resserrement dans celui-ci. Les resserrements péristaltiques sont probablement réglés par des microfilaments et non par des microtubules et il se peut que la synthèse de protéine soit nécessaire, mais la phosphorylation oxydative ne l'est pas. Le rapport possible entre les resserrements et les événements morphogénétiques des ufs fertilisés est discuté.     

Amnesic effects of intravenous diazepam and lorazepam

Summary The amnesic effects of 2 benzodiazepine drugs, diazepam (Valium) and lorazepam (Ativan), have been investigated. Some of the effects were similar to those of certain clinical amnesic syndromes. The effects were more extensive than previous work has indicated.Acknowledgments. The authors are grateful to Dr J. Error theory and ageing in human diploid fibroblasts

Immunological and enzymatic assessments of lactate dehydrogenase in human lung fibroblasts strongly suggest that altered proteins accumulate in ageing cells. This supports but does not prove the error catastrophe theory of all death.     

Prolongation of clotting time in the dormant bat (Myotis lucifugus)

Résumé En été, la durée de coagulation du sang augmente notablement si l'on soumet la chauve-souris à une basse température (5°C); elle diminue dès qu'on replace l'animal dans un milieu chaud (23°C). Ceci indique l'existence d'un mécanisme adaptif qui prévient la formation du thrombus.
