Serological properties of poly-L-tyrosine derivatives

Zusammenfassung Polytyrosin und Polytyrosylgelatine wurden mit diazotierter Arsanilsäure gekoppelt und in Lösung oder nach Fällung mit Alaun und Alkali Kaninchen injiziert. Die injizierten Substanzen wurden von keinem der Sera präzipitiert. Hingegen präzipitierte das Serum der mit gefällter Arsanilazo-polytyrosyl-gelatine injizierten Tiere Arsanilazo-Rinderserumglobulin. Wir schliessen daraus, dass Arsanilazopolytyrosin nicht als Antigen wirkt, dass es aber durch Bindung an Gelatine antigene Eigenschaften gewinnt.

AIDS virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes in lung disorders

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is implicated in the development of AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). HIV infection leads to the generation of HIV-specific thymus-derived (T) lymphocytes in humans and apes. We describe an experimental system permitting the quantitative and systematic analysis of HIV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL). Functional, HIV-specific CTL are obtained by broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) from the lungs of seropositive patients with lymphocytic alveolitis. These alveolar CTL: (1) recognize and kill HIV-infected alveolar macrophages in vitro under autologous, but not heterologous, conditions; (2) correspond to standard CTL as they express the CD3 and CD8 surface markers, but not the CD4 marker; and (3) are restricted by class I HLA transplantation antigens in their cytotoxic activities. We propose the hypothesis that interactions between HIV-specific CTL and infected macrophages induce major inflammatory reactions in seropositive patients.     

Mutations in SEC63 cause autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease

Mutations in PRKCSH, encoding the beta-subunit of glucosidase II, an N-linked glycan-processing enzyme in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), cause autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease. We found that mutations in SEC63, encoding a component of the protein translocation machinery in the ER, also cause this disease. These findings are suggestive of a role for cotranslational protein-processing pathways in maintaining epithelial luminal structure and implicate noncilial ER proteins in human polycystic disease.     

Activation with (±)N-n-propyl-nor-apomorphine (NPA) of the male rat copulatory behavior

Summary I.p. (±)N-n-propyl-nor-apomorphine HCl (NPA) influences copulatory behavior of vigorous adult male rats in the same ways as apomorphine, i.e., it reduces the latency to ejaculation as well as mount and intromission frequency. Furthermore, NPA administered to impotent male rats restores normal mating behavior in some of them.
