A simple method for cultivating the early chick embryo in vitro

Summary A method for cultivating the early chick embryo in an artificial medium has been developed that permits the determination of the stage at the onset of the treatment and the continuous observation of the embryogenesis.Kungliga Fysiografiska Sällskapet, Lund, supported this work.     

Activity of orotate metabolizing enzyme complex and various urea-cycle enzymes in mutant mice with ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency

Summary The overall activity of the enzyme complex consisting of orotate phosphoribosyl transferase and orotidine monophosphate decarboxylase, and of various enzymes of the urea cycle, has been studied in sparse-fur (spf) mutant mice with ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency. The enzyme complex has a lower overall activity, which could be caused by disturbed pyrimidine metabolism due to hyperammonemia. Other enzymes of the urea cycle do not show any significant change.Acknowledgments. Gastric mucus effusion elicited by oral copper compounds: Potential anti-ulcer activity

Summary In rats, both Cu(I) and Cu(II) show an irritancy profile not shared with Cu^o or Zn(II) or Ni(II). Granuloma formation in rat liver after hepatic vein ligation

Summary After occlusion of the hepatic vein draining 1 lobe of the rat liver, macrophage granulomas develop which are reproducible and apparently related to a heat-labile macrophage mobilising factor.     

Mast cells in the pinna of Balb/c ‘nude’ (nu/nu) and heterozygotes (nu/+) mice

Summary The relative number of mast cells in the ear lobes' skin (pinna) of nude (athymic) nu/nu and normal (thymic) nu/+ heterozygotes of Balb/c mice was similar.
