Second nesting record and northward advance of the Great-tailed Grackle ( Quiscalus mexicanus ) in Nevada

The second nesting record for the Great - tailed Grackle ( Quiscalus mexicanus ) in Nevada is reported from the central part of the state approximately 240 km north of the previous record. Since 1912 this species has undergone a dramatic northward extension of its previous range in the United States, presumably as a result of increased agricultural irrigation in areas that were previously desert or short - grass prairie.

Peptido-aminobenzophenones-novel latentiated benzo-1,4-diazepines

Summary It has been shown that cleavage of the N-terminal L-amino acids of a novel series of dipeptide derivatives of 2-aminobenzophenones occurs readily in vivo to give benzo-1,4-diazepines. Such compounds may serve as useful pro-drug forms of minor tranquillizers such as Valium^®.     

Effect of norepinephrine and vasopressin on carotid sinus baroreceptor activity in the anesthetized rabbit

Summary Norepinephrine (NE) 10^–6 M or vasopressin (VP) 12.5 U/ml were injected into the isolated carotid sinus of anesthetized rabbits. The sinus was exposed either to the arterial pressure or to a pressure controlled reservoir. Multifiber and single fiber recordings were made. Both NE and VP increased baroreceptor activity at all sinus pressures but decreased activity in a few fibers. The results are consistent with the drugs having their effects on smooth muscle fibers in the adventitia.Acknowledgments.
