Factors which can lead to such an epidemic are the same as in epidemic diseases in humans and concern the host, causative agents and environmental factors.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde die Zugkraft nasser Flachsfasern nach Behandlung mit verschiedenen Chemikalien geprüft. Es wurde gefunden, daß die Mittellamelle der Flachsfaser verschiedene miteinander verbundene Systeme enthält, nämlich Pektin, Lignin und eine im Oxalat unlös iche alkaliempfindliche Komponente.     

Un curare d'une Erythrine africaine

Summary An alcaloid C₁₆H₁₉NO₃ has been isolated fromErythrina tholloniana; the iodohydrate of this erythroidine has a melting point of 225°C and 239°C for its chlorhydrate. It has a powerful curare-like action on the frog or on its isolated sciatic-sartorius preparation; at a concentration of less than 1/1,000,000, a complete neuromuscular block is produced: the electrical stimulation of the motor nerve does not produce any contraction, but the muscle reacts by an end-plate potential having the same characteristics (shape, duration, possibility of summation) as the electrical waves produced in the same preparation curarized by ordinary curare or by quaternary ammonium derivatives. Decurarization by veratrine 1/200,000 is accompanied by the same electrical reactions as those which have been described in preparations treated by curare.On mammals, the alcaloid has little curariform activity; on the isolated phrenic-diaphragm preparation of the rat, incomplete block was produced at a concentration of 1/5000.     

The influence of sodium. thiosulfate on experimental tumor induction

Zusammenfassung Mäuse wurden mit einer Diät ernährt, die 0,4% Natriumthiosulfat enthielt. Nach Injektion von Methylcholanthren entwickelten sich dann weniger lokale Tumoren als bei den Kontrolltieren. Ebenso gab es seltener Lungenadenome nach Verabreichung von Urethan. Dasselbe zeigte sich bei Ratten: durch Buttergelb wurden weniger Hepatome erzeugt, wenn gleichzeitig Natriumthiosulfat gegeben wurde.     

Failure of increase of bisulphite-binding substances after fat and protein intake during pregnancy

Résumé 6 heures après l'absorption de graisse et d'albumine, on constate dans le sang une augmentation de la concentration des substances qui fixent le bisulfite. Cette augmentation, due à des combinaisons cétoniques, ne se produit pas pendant la grossesse à partir du 3^me ou du 4^me mois. Elle fait aussi défaut, dans certains cas, pendant la lactation. Du moment que l'augmentation de la teneur du sang en bisulfites ne se produit pas non plus lors d'une déficience du lobe antérieur de l'hypophyse, il semble que l'on en peut conclure que durant la grossesse la sécrétion de l'hormone diabétogénique du lobe antérieur est fortement diminuée ou que l'action de celle-ci est enrayée.

Summary Reaction equilibria were established between an invert soap on the one side and carbon, lecithin, erythrocytes and yeast cells on the other side. From the parallelism of the invert soap-lecithin and the invert soap-erythrocytes curves a specific reaction of the invert soap with the lipoids of the erythrocytes may be concluded, whereas the invert soap-yeast cells curves yield a pure adsorption isotherm corresponding to the invert soap-carbon curve.
