Selection of cell lines resistant to cyclic AMP and theophylline from murine plasmocytoma MOPC 173. Cross resistance to ouabain and concanavalin A]

Using cAMP or theophyllin as selective agents, we obtained from contact inhibited and non contact inhibited cell lines, derived from the same plasmocytoma, different resistant cell lines. All of them were cAMP and theophyllin resistant and also ouabain and con A resistant as judged by the growth curves in presence of the different drugs.     

Isolation of the yellow fever virus from an egg-cluster and the larvae of the tick Amblyomma variegatum]

The yellow fever virus is isolated in natura from eggs of a Tick Amblyomma variegatum. It is then isolated from larvae issued from the same egg-cluster and also from blood of a monkey bitten by larvae of the same origin. It is reported that the same virus has been previously obtained from adults of the same species of Tick. An acarine appears for the first time as a sylvatic vector and reservoir (at least temporary) of yellow fever.

Characterization of a cytosolic protein of adrenal origin that binds cholesterol. Adrenal cytosol contains a thermostable protein which binds cholesterol specifically and non-covalently. The sedimentation coefficient of the complex is close to 3 S. The side chain of the cholesterol molecule is responsible for the binding specificity.     

Thyroid morphology and activity does not respond to ELF electromagnetic field exposures.

The hypothesis that the thyroid is the sensitive organ for extremely low freqency electromagnetic field effects was tested. Rats that had been exposed either preinatally or as adults to several intensities of 0.5 Hz magnetic fields displayed no significant alterations in thyroid morphology or circulating hormone measures.

Summary The blood pressure is not disturbed by a local injection of norepinephrine into the hypothalamus, but the excitability of vasopressor centres is affected. Often, the excitability of these centres is decreased; sometimes, it is increased, and, more rarely, it is first potentiated and then inhibited. Epinephrine has the same action, but dopamine is less potent; isoprenaline produces both facilitation and inhibition of these centres, but the facilitating effect is more frequent than with norepinephrine.

Anzichè l'aromatizzazione è stata osservata una degradazione, che nel caso dell'acido 3-metilepta-2, 5-dien-1, 7-dioico conduce all'acido 2-metilglutarico.     

Inactivation of cystathionase and of cysteine sulfinic acid decarboxylase by proteolytic enzymes: Effect of pyridoxal phosphate

Résumé Les résultats obtenus lors de l'étude de la protéolyse, par la trypsine, l'-chymotrypsine et la pronase, de préparations partiellement purifiées de cystathionase et de décarboxylase de l'acide cysteine sulfinique sont décrits. Il apparait que, pour la cystathionase, la sensibilité à la protéolyse est différente selon que l'on utilise l'apoenzyme ou l'holoenzyme.     

Molecular forms of human leukocytic alpha-galactosidase and N-acetyl-alpha-galactosaminidase]

1. Normal human leukocytes present three molecular forms of alpha-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22) separated using electrofocusing: a new major form IV (pI 4.0) characteristic of leukocytes and two forms that exist in other tissues, form I (pI 4.5) and form II (pI 4.0). 2. Normal human leukocytes present only one molecular form (pI 4.5) of N-acetyl-alpha-galactosaminidase (EC 3.2.1.49) corresponding to alpha-galactosidase form II. 3. In leukocytes from patients with Fabry disease, the electrofocusing shows that the alpha-galactosidase lacking corresponds to forms I and IV, while the residual activity corresponds to form II (or N-acetyl-alpha-galactosaminidase).
