Sex hormones as a factor controlling the blood plasma arylesterase activity in rats

Summary A rapid decrease in arylesterase activity was caused by the administration of estradiol to rats, followed by an increase to activity levels 100% higher than the starting levels. After this double response it required almost 40 days for the activity to return to normal levels. There was no remarkable effect by a long-term treatment with a preparation of prolonged estrogenic effect. The results presented further support previous findings that the arylesterase activity is under the control of steroid hormones.

Zusammenfassung Zufuhr von Östradiol bedingte bei Ratten eine rasche Verminderung der Aktivität der Arylesterase, gefolgt von einer Aktivitätszunahme, die etwa 100% höher lag als die ursprünglichen Werte. Nach erfolgter doppelter Antwort dauerte es fast 40 Tage bevor die Enzymaktivität die normale Höhe wieder erreichte. Dadurch werden frühere Befunde bestätigt, wonach die Arylesteraseaktivität durch Steroidhormone reguliert wird.

Zusammenfassung Die mit physikochemischen Untersuchungen nachweisbaren LDL-Anomalien bei der essentiellen Hypertriglyceridämie lassen den Schluss zu, dass Störungen der LDL-Kinetik bei der Pathogenese dieser Krankheit eine wichtige Rolle spielen.     

Combined effects of testosterone and estradiol on the ventral lobe of the rat postate in organ culture]

After organ culture without hormone, the epithelial gland cells of Rat veantral prostate undergo atrophic changes, whereas the interstitial stroma components tend to increase. Estradiol (1-1,000 nM),added to the culture medium, is ineffective. On the contrary, testosterone (1-100 nM) maintains epithelial cells and prevents the increase of interstitial stroma. When estradiol (1-1,000 nM) is combined with a physiological concentration of testosterone (1-4 nM), the epithelial cells are well maintained, but the inhibitory action of testosterone on the stroma is counteracted so that the glandular epithelium and the interstitial stroma are both stimulated. However, when testosterone is used at supraphysiological (10-100 nM) concentrations, estradiol is completely ineffective and the structure of the prostate is identical to the one given by the androgen alone.     

Characterization of DNAs fromCoprinus lagopus andMucor azygospora

Resumé Les rapports G+C des ADN deCoprinus lagopus etMucor azygospora ont été étudiés. Le profil de fusion indique que l'ADN duC. lagopus est composé de deux fractions, une principale (90%) de rapport G+C 52 moles pourcent, une mineure (10%) de G+C 32 moles pourcent. Par contre l'ADN deM. azygospora contient une fraction unique de G+C 38 moles pourcent. L'étude de la cinétique de réassociation DNA:DNA montre que la dimension génomique («genome size») deC. lagopus est de 2×10¹² et qu'il y a moin de 10% de DNA à séquences répétées de nucléotides.

Catecholamines and granular vesicles in adrenergic axons of the developing pineal body of the rat

Resumen Imediatemente después del nacimiento, las fibras adrenérgicas del cuerpo pineal del ratón, contienen solamente vesículas granulosas del tipo grande. Con dós dias, comienzan a aparecer las vesículas granulosas pequeñas; que son las que contienen nor-epinefrina. Se piensa que antes de ésta edad, la nor-epinefrina se localizaria principalmente en un compartimiento extra-vesicular.
