Zusammenfassung In 2 von 7 Stämmen vonProteus rettgeri gelang die Induktion von Bakteriozinen unter der Einwirkung von Mitomycin C. Die gewonnenen Bakteriozine waren chloroformbeständig, trypsinresistent und hitzelabil.     

Resistance of cold-exposed rats to aflatoxin

Summary Male rats kept at a temperature of 4°–5°C were refractory to a lethal dose of aflatoxin compared to animals at 20°–21°C which exhibited a high mortality and marked liver damage. It is suggested that this decreased susceptibility is mediated through a stimulated microsomal drug-metabolizing system in cold environment.     

Intrauterine device increases the fibrinolytic activity of the rat endometrium at deciduation, a new aspect of its contraceptive effect.

The fibrinolytic activity of the endometrium of the two uterine horns in the rat was histochemically determined. One of the horns contained a plastic-IUD, the other served as control. The endometrium of the control horn was almost inactive in contrast with that of the IUD-horn in which fibrinolytic activity was apparent. The fibrinolytic activity induced by the IUD might be involved in the prevention of ova implantation.     

Neuropeptide Y inhibits corticosterone secretion by isolated rat adrenocortical cells

Studies with isolated rat adrenocortical cells have shown that neuropeptide Y (NPY) inhibits both basal and ACTH-stimulated corticosterone secretion. These results suggest the regulatory role of NPY in corticosterone secretion from the adrenal gland, especially during stress.     

Distribution of tritium inWilzbach treated cholesterol

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass Cholesterin-H³, nach Behandlung von besonders gereinigtem Handelscholesterin mit Tritium entsprechend der Vorschrift vonWilzbach, bei sechsmal wiederholter Bromierung nachFieser frei von Cholestanol-H³ erhalten wird. In so gereinigtem Cholesterin-H³ ist der schwere Wasserstoff gleichmässig über alle wasserstofftragenden Kohlenstoffatome verteilt.
