Male-linked translocations and the control of insect pest populations.

Published data on an experimental release of Culex pipiens carrying a male-linked translocation are re-examined and it is shown that the steady decline in translocation frequency after termination of releases agrees with theoretical expectations, because of the selective disadvantage of translocation heterozygote males. Systems based on negative heterosis or meiotic drive are considered whereby it might be possible to prolong the population control which would be achieved by a short term release.

Beneficial action of naloxone in splanchnic artery occlusion shock

Summary The effects of naloxone on mean arterial blood pressure, myocardial depressant factor (MDF) activity and survival, after splanchnic artery occlusion were studied in cats. Naloxone significantly improved survival in splanchnic artery occlusion shock and prevented the accumulation of MDF in the plasma.Supported in part by a research grant from the W. W. Age des halos pléochroïques de quelques granites tertiaires de la Toscane

Riassunto Sono stati studiati gli aloni dei graniti delle isole di Montecristo e del Giglio (arcipelago toscano) e del continente (Gavorrano).Tale studio ha permesso di dimostrare che il loro consolidamento è avvenuto in momenti diversi la cui successione ripete quella dei corrugamenti appenninici. Le età di tali graniti, comparate a quella dell'Elba (Monte Capanne), sono nel seguente ordine:Elba = Montecristo > Giglio > Gavorrano.I singoli stadi sono largamente spaziati nel tempo e gli intervalli sono risultati dell'ordine di circa dieci millioni di anni.

Human globin cDNA-derived recombinants with plasmid pCR1 have been prepared for use as specific hybridisation probes and for the partial sequencing of alpha-, beta- and gamma-globin genes.
