Effect of relative humidity on the free-living stages ofStrongyloides papillosus (Rhabdiasoidea: Nematoda)

Summary The eggs and larvae are affected by the changes in the humidity level around them. The eggs do not develop below 87% relative humidity at 30 °C and 25 °C. At sub-developmental rel. hum. they remain viable for 30 h at 81%, but at 73% rel. hum. level they do not survive beyond 18 h. Survival of larvae in 100% rel. hum. is longer at 30 °C than at 25 °C and 35 °C, and also they exhibit a poor resistance to desiccation.Acknowledgment. Inheritance of phenotypic plasticity in soft chess,Bromus mollis L. (Gramineae)

Summary Phenotypic plasticity, measured by the phenotypic variation of a genotype living under diverse environments, was shown to be under genetic control in annual grass,Bromus mollis. Genetic polymorphism and phenotypic plasticity appear to be alternative strategies of adaptation in plant populations.     

Demonstration of cobalt in histological sections using ion microanalysis by high mass resolution : application to the study of experimental chronic epilepsy in the rat]

Cobalt is specifically detected in ion microanalysis by high mass resolution. This method allows detection of the remaining cobalt in histological sections of Rat's cortex, after treatment by topic application of cobalt powder and demonstrates a diffusion of the metal into the epileptic area.

Sur la caractérisation de dérivés guanidiques d'origine biologique par électrophorèse et chromatographie sur papier (chromatoélectrophorèse)

Summary Paper chromatography has been used in conjonction with electrophoresis in a perpendicular direction (chromatoelectrophoresis), in order to characterize various guanidoderivatives of biological interest and also citrulline. The isolation of definite spots can be obtained with a satisfactory selectivity by this procedure, at a higher speed than by bidimensional chromatography; and the use of a few coloured reactions (ninhydrine,Sakaguchi, diacetyle--naphtol andp-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde) on the same electrochromatogram has been successfully practised in this field.     

Absence of effects of dibutyryl cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate on release of alpha-amylase, 45Ca efflux, and protein synthesis in rat pancreas in vitro.

Dibutyryl cyclic GMP did not affect basal, or carbachol stimulated secretion of alpha-amylase from rat pancreas. The nucleotide did not have a significant effect on 45Ca release from the pancreas nor did it alter the response to carbachol. The dibutyryl analogue of cyclic GMP did not duplicate or alter the inhibitory effect of carbachol on 3H-leucine incorporation into pancreatic trichloroacetic acid-precipitable protein.
