Bronchial asthma is a common inflammatory disease caused by the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Through a genome-wide association study and a replication study consisting of a total of 7,171 individuals with adult asthma (cases) and 27,912 controls in the Japanese population, we identified five loci associated with susceptibility to adult asthma. In addition to the major histocompatibility complex and TSLP-WDR36 loci previously reported, we identified three additional loci: a USP38-GAB1 locus on chromosome 4q31 (combined P = 1.87 × 10(-12)), a locus on chromosome 10p14 (P = 1.79 × 10(-15)) and a gene-rich region on chromosome 12q13 (P = 2.33 × 10(-13)). We observed the most significant association with adult asthma at rs404860 in the major histocompatiblity complex region (P = 4.07 × 10(-23)), which is close to rs2070600, a SNP previously reported for association with FEV(1)/FVC in genome-wide association studies for lung function. Our findings offer a better understanding of the genetic contribution to asthma susceptibility.  相似文献

This paper presents our recent progress for the development of low-loss Bi2223/Ag tapes with interfilamentary oxide barriers. For the compatibility with Bi2223 superconductors, SrZrO3 was selected as barrier material. Moreover, small amount of Bi2212 was mixed with SrZrO3 to improve its ductility for cold working. By controlling the thickness of barrier layers among the filaments, reducing the tape wi dth (<3 mm) and twisting the filaments tightly (<5 mm in twist pitch lengths), coupling frequency fc exceeded 250 Hz even in an AC perpendicular field at 77 K. Transport Jc of the barrier tapes with tightly twisted filaments was in the range of 12 ? 15 kA/cm2 at 77 K and self-field. At 50 mT and 50 Hz, the twisted barrier tapes showed 60% ? 70% lower perpendicular field losses than the conventional 4 mm-widt h tape with fully coupled filaments.  相似文献

Blue light regulates processes such as the development of plants and fungi and the behaviour of microbes. Two types of blue-light receptor flavoprotein have been identified: cryptochromes, which have partial similarity to photolyases, and phototropins, which are photoregulated protein kinases. The former have also been found in animals with evidence of essential roles in circadian rhythms. Euglena gracilis, a unicellular flagellate, abruptly changes its swimming direction after a sudden increase or decrease in incident blue light intensity, that is, step-up or step-down photophobic responses, resulting in photoavoidance or photoaccumulation, respectively. Although these photobehaviours of Euglena have been studied for a century, the photoreceptor molecules mediating them have remained unknown. Here we report the discovery and biochemical characterization of a new type of blue-light receptor flavoprotein, photoactivated adenylyl cyclase, in the photoreceptor organelle of Euglena gracilis, with molecular genetic evidence that it mediates the step-up photophobic response.  相似文献
