Low frequency dispersion law for two-dimensional metallic photonic crystals

Using the rigorous multiple-scattering theory, we study the dispersion relation of electromagnetic （EM） waves in two dimensional dielectric photonic crystals （PCs） and metallic photonic crystals （MPCs） in the low-frequency limit. Analytic formula for the effective velocity of EM waves in PCs and MPCs is obtained. Accuracy of our formula is checked by comparing the results with rigorous calculations. For PCs, our result is exactly the same as the coherent potential approximation （CPA）, which is accurate even when the filling fraction is high. But for MPCs, our approach demonstrates special advantages, while the CPA theory fails, in predicting the effective velocity of EM waves in MPCs at low frequency.     

Immunoinhibitory effect of soluble HLA-G1 on the cytotoxicity of NK92 cells

HLA-G (human leukocyte antigen-G) is a non-classical HLA class I molecule, playing an important immuno-modulatory role in maintaining maternal immune tolerance of the semiallogenic fetus and organ transplantation. In this study, the cDNA sequence of extracellular domain of HLA-G1 was subcloned into the pET28a vector and a soluble 35 kD fusion protein (His-sHLA-G1) with six histine residues was obtained. In the 4 h 51Cr-release assay the fusion protein obviously inhibited the cytotoxicity of NK92 cells in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicated that sHLA-G1, as an activated immunoinhibitor, may provide an effective approach to overcoming the immune rejection of transplantation.

牡蛎不同组织细胞核DNA含量比较

以太平洋牡蛎新鲜的鳃、闭壳肌及性腺组织为试材,利用流式细胞计分别测定三个组织细胞核ＤＮＡ的含量。其中,鳃及闭壳肌组织细胞核ＤＮＡ相对含量在个体间及组织之间比较恒定,而性腺组织细胞核ＤＮＡ含量受温度影响比较大,个体间差异明显,且与鳃及闭壳肌组织细胞核ＤＮＡ含量均呈明显差异。结果说明,鳃及闭壳肌组织是测定牡蛎细胞核ＤＮＡ含量用于倍性鉴定的理想试材。     

Nuclear Explosion Fusion Power Plant ——the Hope of the Mankind Future Energy

Analysis of intron sequence variability of the conservative HMG-box of Sox9 genes in allotetraploids and their original parents

The Sox genes of allotetraploids and their original maternal red crucian carp （Carassius caassius red var.） and original paternal common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) were detected by PCR with the designed primers based on the conserved HMG-box sequence in different species. Sequencing of Sox genes indicated that two Sox9 genes (Atsox9a and Atsox9b) existed in allotetraploids, while only one Sox9 gene existed in red crucian carp (Rcsox9a) and common carp (Ccsox9b). All of the four Sox9 genes contained an intron in the HMG-box, with the sizes of 413 bp, 703 bp, 401 bp and 714 bp, respectively. Moreover, the introns obeyed the rule of “GT-AG”. A high similarity was observed between introns of Atsox9a and Rcsox9a (94.4%), Atsox9b and Ccsox9b (97.8%). Interestingly, the deduced amino acid sequences of their corresponding exons all shared 100% identity. Thus, introns of the HMG-domain of Sox9s in allotetraploids and their original parents have not only the length polymorphism but also intron variability. Our results provide significant molecular evidence for the origin and evolution of allotetraploids.

Wavelength Reusability of Failure Protection Based on Rerouting in Wavelength-routed Optical Networks

This paper investigates the wavelength efficiency of failure protection based on rerouting in wave-length-routed optical networks. In order to study the impacts of different traffic pattern over the efficiency, a parameter, wavelength reusability ρ, is introduced as an evaluation criterion. Performance of different failure protection methods and the imfluence of different muting schemes over the performance are investigated. The muting and wavelength assignment problem involved in failure protection is formulated as integer linear programming problem, relevant heuristic optimization algorithms are also developed, numerical results are presented and discussed in detail.
