Genotype dependence of monoamine oxidase in inbred strains of mice

Summary MAO activity was found to be influenced by the genotype or strain of mouse up to 20 days of age. The strain differences observed may derive from different rates of brain development. A number of neurological mutations comprizing three pathological classes had no effect on MAO.This work was supported in part by NIH grant No. NS06448 from the National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke.     

Primary culture of dispersed skin epidermal cells of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum

This is the first report on a primary culture of dispersed skin epidermal cells of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum. These primary cells revealed a low seeding efficiency after 3 days (11.6 ± 4.6%), whereas subcultured cells had a higher seeding efficiency at the same time point (75.5 ± 34.0%) and increased in cell number (150 – 200% of seeded cells after 20 to 30 days). The cells were characterized applying histological, immunocytochemical and ultrastructural methods. The culture consisted of undifferentiated keratinocytes. Mucous cells as well as differentiated epithelial cells were absent. To date the cells were cultured for maximally 9 passages and 402 days and therefore provide the possibility for long-term studies. Profound hypothermia in golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) induced by serotonergic potentiating and noradrenergic inhibiting drugs

Profound hypothermia (6 degrees C) was induced in cold exposed golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) by a combination of drugs that potentiate brain serotonergic activity (fluoxetine and pargyline) and inhibit noradrenergic activity (alpha-methyl-p-tyrosine). Individual drugs and combinations of 2 were ineffective.

Summary Elektrocortin is 30 times as active as Desoxycorticosterone in raising the liver glycogen to the same degree.     

Elevated α-2-serum proteins as a possible genetic marker in spontaneous hereditary diabetes mellitus of the chinese hamster (cricetulus griseus)

Zusammenfassung Bei chinesischen Hamstern aus Inzuchten mit erblicher Zuckerkrankheit wurden erhöhte Serum--2-Eiweisswerte konstatiert. Die Erhöhung erfolgt vor Auftreten der Hyperglykämie oder Blutgefäss- und anderen sekundären pathologischen Veränderungen. Es wird gefolgert, dass die Eiweisserhöhung gen-bedingt ist und wahrscheinlich chemisch abnormales Eiweiss betrifft.

Leukozytenemigrationsfördernde Wirkung durch Leukozytenschädigung

Summary Leukocytic cells after slight damage produce stimulation of migration of other normal leucocytes; normal leukocytes inhibit to some extent migration of other normal leukocytes, killed leukocytes have no effect. The significance of this result is, that secondary accumulation of leukocytes with not primary chemotactic substances may be explained by the interaction of damaged leukocytes.     

Chemotaxine und Kapillarpermeabilität

Summary Bacterial polysaccharides, which exhibit an intense specific stimulating effect on the migration of leucocytes, provoke no trypan blue reaction on the intracutaneous vesicle. Certain mucoproteins show both effects, others only provoke the formation of vesicles. Both reactions are thus separable components of the phenomenon of inflammation.
