The unique institutions in Taiwan may add to our understanding of the effect of initial public offering (IPO) firm disclosures. Consistent with the notion of market mispricing, most of Taiwan's IPOs were with consecutive up‐limit hits followed by substantial price reversals. In this study, we decompose IPO underpricing into two components: pure underpricing and subsequent reversal, exploring the impact of the 1991 mandate that IPO firms should include their management forecasts in the prospectuses on these two anomaly measures. Our results support the notion that disclosure regulations ameliorate investors' mispricing the stocks. First, pure underpricing and reversal are significantly less (more) pronounced for post‐mandate (pre‐mandate) IPO stocks. In contrast, consistent with the cheap talk hypothesis, the pre‐mandate voluntary forecasters (non‐forecasters) appear to be more (less) underpriced. Second, the duration of underpricing for the post‐mandate (pre‐mandate) IPOs appears to be shorter (longer). Continuous replacement of teeth throughout the lifespan of an individual is possibly basal for most of the vertebrates including fish and reptiles; however, mammals generally have a limited capacity of tooth renewal. The ability to induce cellular differentiation in adults to replace lost or damaged cells in mammals, or to tissue-engineer organs in vitro, has hence become one of the major goals of regenerative medicine. In this article, we will revisit some of the important signals and tissue interactions that regulate mammalian tooth development, and will offer a synopsis of the latest progress in tooth regeneration and repair via molecular and engineering approaches. It is hoped that this article will not only offer an overview of recent technologies in tooth regeneration and repair but will also stimulate more interdisciplinary research in this field to turn the pursuit of tooth regeneration and repair into practical reality. 相似文献

Opsin, the ligand-free form of the G-protein-coupled receptor rhodopsin, at low pH adopts a conformationally distinct, active G-protein-binding state known as Ops*. A synthetic peptide derived from the main binding site of the heterotrimeric G protein-the carboxy terminus of the alpha-subunit (GalphaCT)-stabilizes Ops*. Here we present the 3.2 A crystal structure of the bovine Ops*-GalphaCT peptide complex. GalphaCT binds to a site in opsin that is opened by an outward tilt of transmembrane helix (TM) 6, a pairing of TM5 and TM6, and a restructured TM7-helix 8 kink. Contacts along the inner surface of TM5 and TM6 induce an alpha-helical conformation in GalphaCT with a C-terminal reverse turn. Main-chain carbonyl groups in the reverse turn constitute the centre of a hydrogen-bonded network, which links the two receptor regions containing the conserved E(D)RY and NPxxY(x)(5,6)F motifs. On the basis of the Ops*-GalphaCT structure and known conformational changes in Galpha, we discuss signal transfer from the receptor to the G protein nucleotide-binding site. 相似文献

Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) are a superfamily of enzymes that degrade the intracellular second messengers cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP. As essential regulators of cyclic nucleotide signalling with diverse physiological functions, PDEs are drug targets for the treatment of various diseases, including heart failure, depression, asthma, inflammation and erectile dysfunction. Of the 12 PDE gene families, cGMP-specific PDE5 carries out the principal cGMP-hydrolysing activity in human corpus cavernosum tissue. It is well known as the target of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) and other similar drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Despite the pressing need to develop selective PDE inhibitors as therapeutic drugs, only the cAMP-specific PDE4 structures are currently available. Here we present the three-dimensional structures of the catalytic domain (residues 537-860) of human PDE5 complexed with the three drug molecules sildenafil, tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra). Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, two important human pathogens, target host fibronectin (Fn) in their adhesion to and invasion of host cells. Fibronectin-binding proteins (FnBPs), anchored in the bacterial cell wall, have multiple Fn-binding repeats in an unfolded region of the protein. The bacterium-binding site in the amino-terminal domain (1-5F1) of Fn contains five sequential Fn type 1 (F1) modules. Here we show the structure of a streptococcal (S. dysgalactiae) FnBP peptide (B3) in complex with the module pair 1F12F1. This identifies 1F1- and 2F1-binding motifs in B3 that form additional antiparallel beta-strands on sequential F1 modules-the first example of a tandem beta-zipper. Sequence analyses of larger regions of FnBPs from S. pyogenes and S. aureus reveal a repeating pattern of F1-binding motifs that match the pattern of F1 modules in 1-5F1 of Fn. In the process of Fn-mediated invasion of host cells, therefore, the bacterial proteins seem to exploit the modular structure of Fn by forming extended tandem beta-zippers. This work is a vital step forward in explaining the full mechanism of the integrin-dependent FnBP-mediated invasion of host cells. 相似文献

根据黄河不同地区的20个沉积物全岩样、酸溶相和酸不溶相中的稀土元素(REE)组成分析,并与1999年的研究比较,揭示出黄河沉积物REE组成主要受流域黄土源岩控制,而粒度、化学风化和人类活动等因素影响较弱.磷酸盐和Fe-Mn氧化物是形成酸溶相中的中稀土富集主要因素;而重矿物则明显影响了全岩和酸不溶残渣态REE分异特征.在世界大河中黄河沉积物REE组成非常独特,直接反映了我国上陆壳和陆表沉积物的组成特征,也可以用做标准化物质,用来对比研究世界其他河流的REE分异特征. 相似文献

Cadherins are Ca2+-dependent transmembrane glycoproteins crucial for cell-cell adhesion in vertebrates and invertebrates. Classification of
this superfamily due to their phylogenetic relationship is currently restricted to three major subfamilies: classical, desmosomal
and protocadherins. Here we report evidence for a common phylogenetic origin of the kidney-specific Ksp- (Cdh16) and the intestine-specific LI-cadherin (Cdh17). Both genes consist of 18 exons and the positions of their exon-intron boundaries as well as their intron phases are perfectly
conserved. We found an extensive paralogy of more than 40 megabases in mammals as well as teleost fish species encompassing
the Ksp- and LI-cadherin genes. A comparable paralogy was not detected for other cadherin gene loci. These findings suggest
that the Ksp- and LI-cadherin genes originated by chromosomal duplication early during vertebrate evolution and support our
assumption that both proteins are paralogues within a separate cadherin family that we have termed 7D-cadherins.
