Brain glycogen following experimental cerebral ischemia in gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus)

Summary Cortical glycogen levels decreased after both 1 and 3 h of unilateral ischemia. After 1 h of recirculation, the levels of glycogen were restored to control values in both groups. Subsequently, glycogen increased above normal levels after 1 week of recirculation in the 1 h ischemic groups, and after 5 h in the 3 h ischemic group. Thus, the onset of the excess glycogen accumulation appears to be dependent on the intensity of the ischemic insult.     

The generation of toxic activity fromTrypanosoma congolense

Summary Trypanosoma congolense organisms, on incubation at 20°C for 91/2h, were found to generate phospholipaselike activity which was capable of mediating lysis of both nucleated cells and erythrocytes as well as an acute inflammatory response on intradermal inoculation.Acknowledgments. Muscular respiratory receptors in self-regulation of normal breathing in man.

In man, in the process of evolution the proprioceptive reflexes from the chest muscle during apnea become weak. Probably the impulses from the respiratory stretch receptors do not take part in self-regulation of eupnea.     

Adenyl cyclase activity of mouse liver membranes after incubation with endotoxin and epinephrine

Summary Adenyl cyclase activity in isolated mouse liver cell membranes was stimulated two-fold by endotoxin. Furthermore, endotoxin inhibited epinephrine induction of adenyl cyclase activity, apparently through interruption of the phospholipid moiety of the enzyme complex.
