Antilipemic activities of several new heparinoids

Zusammenfassung Antilipämische und blutgerinnungshemmende Wirkungen einer Gruppe halbsynthetischer Heparinoide wurdenin vivo undin vitro bestimmt. Sulfoniertes Saponin und sulfoniertes Tannin wiesen eine bedeutende antilipämische und eine schwache blutgerinnungshemmende Aktivität auf. Diese Stoffe beeinflussten auch die Elektrophorese der Lipoproteine in ähnlicher Weise wie Heparin.     

Receptor communication within the lymphocyte plasma membrane: a role for the thrombospondin family of matricellular proteins

Lymphocytes, the principal cells of the immune system, carry out immune surveillance throughout the body by their unique capacity to constantly reposition themselves between a free-floating vascular state and a tissue state characterized by migration and frequent adhesive interactions with endothelial cells and components of the extracellular matrix. Therefore, mechanisms co-ordinating adhesion and migration with signals delivered through antigen recognition probably play a pivotal role for the regulation of lymphocyte behaviour and function. Endogenous thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) seems to be the hub in such a mechanism for autocrine regulation of T cell adhesion and migration. TSP-1 functions as a mediator of cis interaction of vital receptors within the T lymphocyte plasma membrane, including integrins, low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein, calreticulin and integrin-associated protein. Hormone and forskolin-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation in human lymphocytes: reliability of longitudinal time measurements

Summary Reliability of measurement of lymphocyte cyclic AMP synthesis in intact cells was estimated by taking 3 successive blood samples during a one-month period from 11 healthy volunteers. Isoproterenol and prostaglandin E₁-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation were used to evaluate the activity of these two receptor activities in human lymphocytes. Forskolin-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation was used to evaluate the activity of the Ns/catalytic subunit. Only for forskolin was significant reliability observed. For isoproterenol and prostaglandin E₁ significant reliability was observed only for male subjects.Acknowledgment. Role of the anomeric centre in sugar sweetness

Intensity-time studies of the sweetness of D-glucose solutions show that there are no major differences between alpha- and beta-anomers. Nor do the alpha- and beta-anomers exhibit any differences in apparent molar volumes. Contrary to previous reports, the anomeric centre of D-fructose may play no direct role in the sweetness response.     

Avilamycin

Summary A strain ofStreptomyces viridochromogenes produced a new crystalline antibiotic, Avilamycin, related to but not identical with Curamycin and Exfoliatin. Avilamycin, C₆₃H₉₄O₃₅Cl₂, gave on solvolytic degradation the following products: dichloroisoeverninic acid, 2-deoxy-d-rhamnose, 2,6-di-O-methylmannose, 4-O-methylfucose,l-lyxose and 3,5-diacetoxy--caprolactone.     

Superior cervical ganglionectomy in the Japanese quail

Résumé Les effets de l'ablation des ganglions cervicals supérieurs deCoturnix coturnix japonica font l'objet de cet exposé. Chez le mâle la gangliectomie bilatérale n'affecte pas l'activité testiculaire. Par contre chez les femelles la quantité d'ufs pondus est nettement réduite et l'interruption post-opératoire de la pondaison est prolongée; de plus la première ponte des jeunes femelles est retardée. LesCoturnix qui ont subi l'ablation des ganglions ont un taux de mortalité plus élevé lorsque les oiseaux sont exposés à des abaissements de température et des changements de photopériodisme.

Résumé Les auteurs ont effectué de nouvelles préparations chimiques anticancéreuses en utilisant une forme des agents alkylants déactivés du type moutarde nitrogénée quaternaire. Un mode d'action est proposé par lequel ces préparations peuvent être activées in vivo.
