Spectrin-based skeleton as an actor in cell signaling

This review focuses on the recent advances in functions of spectrins in non-erythroid cells. We discuss new data concerning the commonly known role of the spectrin-based skeleton in control of membrane organization, stability and shape, and tethering protein mosaics to the cellular motors and to all major filament systems. Particular effort has been undertaken to highlight recent advances linking spectrin to cell signaling phenomena and its participation in signal transduction pathways in many cell types.     

Mechanism of the fall in blood pressure after ‘unclamping’ in rats with Goldblatt-type hypertension

Résumé Chez le rat hypertendu par constriction partielle d'une artère rénale et néphrectomie controlatérale, la suppression chirurgicale de la constriction entraîne une normalisation de la pression artérielle et une excrétion urinaire importante d'eau et de sodium; la ligature préalable de l'uretère empêche la normalisation de la pression.     

Nachweis der Selbst-Erregung der circadianen Periodizität bei Carabiden (Coleoptera Ins.)

Summary Most of the active individuals ofCarabus cancellatus (Coleoptera) investigated were synchronized by zeitgeber-lengths of 8/8 10/10 or 16/16 h. On the other hand, a smaller number of beetles lost the periodicities of these Zeitgebers and showed a circadian activity rhythm. According to these experiments, the existence of a self-sustained circadian oscillation in carabid beetles is demonstrated. As we believe, a special numerical method of computing the length of activity periodicities was used for the first time.     

Androgens and erythropoiesis in bone marrow. II. Effect of testosterone propionate on59Fe concentration in erythrocytes and bone marrow

Résumé L'augmentation d'incorporation de⁵⁹Fe dans les globules rouge de rats auxquels on a donné du testosterone propionate est évidente dans la circulation périphérique du sang, 24 h après l'injection du⁵⁹Fe. Le rapport entre cette donnée et le temps de transfert des erythroblastes dans la moelle osseuse montre que les androgènes stimulent la maturation de normoblastes basophiliques et polychromatophiliques, plutôt que l'érythropoietine.

Résumé L'effet d'une dose létale d'endotoxine, qui abaisse in vivo le taux du C3 du rat ne se manifeste pas chez les rats rendus tolérants à cette substance.     

Metachromasia in cultured fibroblasts of subjects with glycogenosis type II

Riassunto Frammenti di cute di due soggetti affetti da glicogenosi tipo II e dei loro genitori e fratelli sono stati coltivati in vitro. Sia nelle culture dei pazienti che dei loro familiari si è osservata la presenza di materiale metacromatico dopo colorazione con blu di toluidina 0. Nei leucociti di tutti i familiari esaminati l'attività della -1,4-glucosidasi è risultata ridotta.
