Deoxyribonuclease immobilized on the erythrocytes

Summary Bovine pancreatic deoxyribonuclease (DNase I) was immobilized on human erythrocytes with several procedures. DNase immobilized on the erythrocytes by chromic chloride showed DNase activity in vitro. Other binding procedures inhibit the immobilized DNase activity.     

Isolation of (−)-cryptosporiopsin,a chlorinated cyclopentenone fungitoxic metabolite fromPhialophora asteris f. sp.helianthi

Summary The (–)-enantiomer of cryptosporiopsin, a chlorinated cyclopentenone fungitoxic metabolite, was isolated fromPhialophora asteris f. sp.helianthi. Next to a comparable fungitoxic activity as shown by crypstosporiopsin, the product particularly inhibits growth ofSclerotinia sclerotiorum, an important pathogen on sunflower. Two further metabolites were tentatively identified as a stereoisomer of cryptosporiopsin and its dehydrated derivative.The authors are much indebted to Dr.G. M. Uptake of3H-GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) and3H-leucine in the pancreatic islets and substantia nigra of the rat

Summary Isolated pancreatic islets and thin slices of substantia nigra (SN) of the rat were incubated in a medium containing³H-GABA or³H-leucine to test the activity of both tissues in the uptake of those substances. Pancreatic islets showed a low uptake of both³H-GABA and³H-leucine, but SN had a high activity in the uptake of³H-GABA, though not for³H-leucine. This suggests that GABA contained at high levels in the pancreatic islets plays some functional role other than in neurotransmission as in the central nervous system (CNS).     

Effect of prostaglandin F2α on the secretion of pancreatic juice induced by secretin and by dopamine

Zusammenfassung Die Wirksamkeit von Prostaglandin F₂ (PGF₂) auf die exokrine Pankreassekretion wurde an einem mit Blut perfundiereten Pankreas-Präparat des Hundes untersucht. PGF₂ (100 g) hemmte die durch Sekretin stimuliete, aber nicht die durch Dopamin stimulierte Sekretion.     

Avian sarcoma virus Y73 genome sequence and structural similarity of its transforming gene product to that of Rous sarcoma virus

From the complete nucleotide sequence of the genome of the avian sarcoma virus Y73, we have predicted amino acid sequence of p90 gag-yes, the product of the transforming gene. Contrary to previous evidence from molecular hybridization studies p90 gag-yes was found to have much homology with the transforming gene product p60 src of Rous sarcoma virus, suggesting that the cellular counterparts of the two (c-yes and c-src) originated from a common prototype sequence.     

A simple procedure for removal of intra- and extra-tumoral macrophages from primary tumor cultures

Summary Improved growth of tumor cells in primary cell suspensions isolated from solid tumors can be achieved by addition of an antifungal agent, mycostatin, to the culture medium. Mycostatin inhibits the cytotoxicity of macrophages and also quickly detaches phagocytes without any apparent retardation of the growth of tumor cells. This method is particularly useful for obtaining cultures of lung tumor cells or cells from lung metastases of other tumors.This research was supported in part by grants CA-22839 and CA-28482 awarded by the National Cancer Institute, DHEW, USA.
