Umwandlung von radioaktivem Cortexon in Aldosteron durch Nebennieren-Enzyme

Summary Cortexone labeled in the 21-position with C¹⁴ yielded radioactive Aldosterone through incubation with beef adrenal homogenate. Its activity, due entirely to the 21 carbon atom, showed that about 48% of the Aldosterone had arisen from a direct conversion of cortexone without intermediate degradation. The low yield by weight in this conversion suggests, however, that cortexone is not the only natural precursor for Aldosterone in the adrenal.The radioactivity of the corticosterone obtained showed that about 84% of it originated from added cortexone. Lack of radioactivity of the hydrocortisone confirmed that it does not essentially result from cortexone.

Partial purification and some characteristics of hamster molar alkaline phosphatase

Summary A rapid 3-step method is given to purify partially hamster molar alkaline phosphatase. Molecular weight was 50,200 and isoelectric point 3.7. The alkaline phosphatases in the mesenchymal and ectodermal parts of the tooth are probably identical.     

Odorous urine following asparagus ingestion in man

Summary The production of odorous urine after the ingestion of asparagus has been shown to occur in 43% of 800 volunteers investigated. This characteristics is reproducible over a 12-month-period and has been shown to remain with individuals for virtually a lifetime. Family studies suggest that the ability to produce the odorous urine is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait.     

Specific inhibition of human leukocyte elastase by substituted alpha-pyrones

Several a-pyrones have been synthesized and investigated for their in vitro inhibitory activity using a-chymotrypsin (a-CT), porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE) and human leukocyte elastase (HLE). 4-Hydroxy-6-undecyl-2H-pyran-2-one 4, 4-Hydroxy-6-[(1-butyl)heptyl]-2H-pyran-2-one 5 and 4-Methoxy-6-[(1-butyl) heptyl]-2H-pyran-2-one 6 were found to be specific inhibitors of HLE. These compounds constitute a promising new class of HLE inhibitors.
