Production of reddish-brown pigment fromdl-tryptophan by enterobacteria of the Proteus-Providencia group

Zusammenfassung Die Bakterien der Gruppe Proteus-Providencia produzieren auf tryptophanreichen Kulturmedien braunrotes Pigment. Die Autoren geben die Bedingungen über diese spezifische Pigmentproduktion und nehmen an, dass diese Pigmentation zur Differentialdiagnostik der Gruppe Proteus-Providencia dienen könnte.     

Inhibition ofin vitro release of thyreotrophin by an analogue of oxytocin, 3-valine-oxytocin

Zusammenfassung Rattenadenohypophysen wurden in Krebs-Ringer-Bikarbonatlösung ohne Zusatz oder mit 50µg/cm³ synthetischem Oxytocin, 3-Valin-Oxytocin, 3-Norvalin-Oxytocin und Leucyl-Glycyl-Glycyl-Oxytocin inkubiert. Die Freisetzung von TSH wurde durch 3-Valin-Oxytocin gehemmt; die anderen Peptide waren ohne Wirkung.     

Localization of concanavalin-A binding sites inTetrahymena by scanning electron microscopy

The influence of furosemide on the renal excretion of chloramphenicol and its metabolites.

Simultaneous administration of chloramphenicol and furosemide (10 mg i.v.) decreased urinary excretion of chloramphenicol but increased the excretion of its metabolites as aryl amines and total nitro compounds. These latter increases were directly related to Na excretion.     

Effect of colicin E3 on leukemia cells P388 in vitro.

Proliferation of murine leukemia cells P388 is stimulated by less than 1.0 mg/ml colicin E3, while being inhibited by higher concentrations. By 1.6 mg/ml colicin E3, uptake of thymidine into cold TCA-precipitable fraction is decreased by 59% during 24 h, uptake of uridine by 29%.
