Differences in phagocytic activity of methacrylate copolymer particles in normal and stimulated macrophages

Summary Methacrylate copolymer particles were found to be optimal for a study of phagocytosis in normal and stimulated macrophages, and, after their simple coating with antiserum, for a specific cell labelling with minimal spontaneous adhesion to the cell surface.     

Action de différents mélanges gazeux sur l'artère mésentérique de l'embryon de poulet explantée in vitro

Summary The effect of various gas mixtures on the mesenteric artery of chicken embryo explanted in vitro has been studied. The expiants were cultivated in normal air, with addition of 3% of CO₂, and in hypo- and hyperoxic atmosphere. The best survival of explanted arteries is obtained with atmospheric air. The hypoxic gas mixture (2% O₂) has the most toxic effect on the expiants. The hyperoxic conditions show also a toxic effect, but in a lesser degree than hypoxic conditions.

Succinic dehydrogenase activity during starvation of a terrestrial pulmonateAriophanta sp.

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass die Dehydrogenase-Aktivität im Hepatopankreas, Fuss und Schlundring bei der Lugenschneckeariophanta sp. eine ausgesprochene Enzymanpassung an die veränderten Stoffwechselbedingungen während langfristiger Hungerperioden zeigt und damit auf einen Überlebensmechanismus hinweist.     

Oxidative metabolism of the hypothalamus in hypophysectomized-castrated rats

Resumen Los resultados obtenidos han indicado que el incremento del consumo de oxígeno en el hipotálamo anterior y posterior de los animales hipofisectomizados desaparece si estos animales son castrados simultaneamente con la hipofisectomía. Se discute la importancia de la presencia del testículo en la elevación de la actividad metabólica del hipotálamo luego de la hipofisectomía.
