Summary Eight depressed patients were treated for 25 days with the antidepressant drug mianserin (3×20 mg/day). °-Endorphin immunoreactivity, measured in blood samples withdrawn before and after the treatment, appeared to be significantly reduced by mianserin. Since endogenous opioids can play a role in the etiology of depression, the observed effects of mianserin could be of relevance for its anti-depressant activity. 相似文献

Summary The spongeDysidea herbacea (Keller) was found to possess hemagglutinins. The major component, DHA-I, is a protein with a mol.wt of 26,000, which dissociates into subunits of equal size (14,000). It contains large amounts of glutamic acid and aspartic acid residues, but no half-cystine, methionine or histidine residues. DHA-I reacted with rabbit and human AB0 erythrocytes. D-galactose and lactose were effective inhibitors of DHA-I. The sponge also contained a minor component(s) which reacted preferentially with rabbit erythrocytes but not with human AB0 erythrocytes.Acknowledgment. We thank Dr. M. Summary Time- and dose-dependent protein synthesis inhibition takes place following exposure to high doses of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) or diethylnitrosamine (DENA) in isolated rat hepatocytes. The ability of DENA to depress protein synthesis is 5-fold higher than that of DMN. Cells inhibited by 60 min exposure to DMN or DENA, and then incubated in a nitrosamine-free medium, regain their initial rate of protein synthesis. Plasma membrane receptors for hormones, drugs, neurotransmitters and sensory stimuli are coupled to guanine nucleotide regulatory proteins. Recent cloning of the genes and/or cDNAs for several of these receptors including the visual pigment rhodopsin, the adenylate-cyclase stimulatory beta-adrenergic receptor and two subtypes of muscarinic cholinergic receptors has suggested that these are homologous proteins with several conserved structural and functional features. Whereas the rhodopsin gene consists of five exons interrupted by four introns, surprisingly the human and hamster beta-adrenergic receptor genes contain no introns in either their coding or untranslated sequences. We have cloned and sequenced a DNA fragment in the human genome which cross-hybridizes with a full-length beta 2-adrenergic receptor probe at reduced stringency. Like the beta 2-adrenergic receptor this gene appears to be intronless, containing an uninterrupted long open reading frame which encodes a putative protein with all the expected structural features of a G-protein-coupled receptor. 相似文献
