Relevance of specific activity in experimental erythrocytocide by 55Fe.

Iron loads between 0.20 microgram and 26 microgram, added to 5 mu Ci 59Fe, were followed for up to 150 days in mice. Relative organ uptake increased as a function of iron load in liver and kidneys while it decreased in bone marrow and blood. Several weeks after injection, all load-related differences disappeared.     

Comparison of the in vitro effects of colchicine and its derivative colchiceine on chondrocyte morphology and function

Summary Colchiceine is a colchicine-metabolite which has been reported to inhibit axonal transport although not binding to brain tubulin. In the present study, colchiceine was shown not to depolymerize cytoplasmic microtubules, nor to mimic other effects of colchicine on the ultrastructure of cultured chondrocytes. In addition, the synthesis of proteoglycans was inhibited by colchicine but slightly stimulated by colchiceine. These results support the idea that the disturbances in cultured chondrocytes caused by colchicine are specifically related to a loss of cytoplasmic microtubules.This work was supported by grants from the Swedish Medical Research Council (proj. Mitosis in the haemocytes ofSarcophaga ruficornis (diptera)

Summary Among the haemocytes ofSarcophaga ruficornis, only the prohaemocytes divide. Injection of phytohaemagglutinin-P induces 100% prohaemocytes to undergo mitosis but does not induce mitosis in other cells. Mitotic stages other than the prophase are apparently very short lived.Acknowledgment. Zusammenfassung Es wurde nachgewiesen, dass die Zunahme des HCO ₃ ^– -Gehaltes in der Cerebrospinalflüssigkeit bei konstantem Plasma-pH unter Hyperkapnie grösser als bei konstantem Plasmabikarbonatgehalt und wesentlich anders als bei der nicht respiratorisch bedingten Säurebaseänderung ist.
