Autoantibody formation against spleen in rats ‘chemically splenectomized’ by ethyl palmitate

Summary The follow-up experiments with rats revealed auto-antibodies against spleens damaged by an i.v. ethyl palmitate injection. The antibodies could be shown in some animals only.     

Enhancement of oxidation products of lipids in liver mitochondria of whole-body irradiated rats

Zusammenfassung Der Einfluss der ionisierenden Strahlung auf die Bildung der Oxydationsprodukte von ungesättigten Fettsäuren in Lebermitochondrien ganzkörperbestrahlter Tiere wurde untersucht. Die TBS-Chromogenwerte erhöhen sich in bestrahlten Mitochondrien statistisch signifikant und sinken in 12 h nach der Bestrahlung wieder zur Norm ab.     

Dermatologically active sesquiterpene lactones in trichomes ofParthenium hysterophorus L. (Compositae)

Summary Scanning electron microscopy of the leaf surface, phyllaries and achene-complex ofParthenium hysterophorus L. showed the presence of 4 types of glandular and non-glandular trichomes. Chemical analysis established the presence of sesquiterpene lactones in the trichomes that cause eczematous dermatitis.Acknowledgments. Evolution of ovarian grafts in male guinea-pigs castrated the first day of life

Résumé Des cobayes mâles ont été châtrés le premier jour après leur naissance; à l'âge de 60 jours, on leur grèffa un ovaire provenant d'un cobaye prépubère et le laissa évoluer pendant 60 jours. Les ovaires greffés ont présenté, dans chaque cas, l'aspect d'un ovaire polycystique, avec des follicules bien développés et sans corps jaunes. Il en faut conclure que la différenciation de l'hypothalamus, chez le cobaye, s'accomplit avant la naissance.

Automatic assay of the distribution of3H-,14C- and32P-labelled compounds within an early chick embryo by a semiconductor detector

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Halbleiterdetektor-Methode beschrieben, durch die ein gleichzeitiger Nachweis der Verteilung von³H-,¹⁴C- und³²P-markierten Stoffen in Somitten des Hühnerembryons ermöglicht wird. Nachweisvorgang sowie Registrierung werden mittels eines dem System angeschlossenen Computers programmiert.     

Exocrine pancreatic enzymes in cycloheximide treated rats

Summary Cycloheximide, even in a dose of 0.25 mg/kg administered s.c. to rats stimulated by pancreozymin and secretin, inhibited lipase activity in pancreatic juice. Lipase activity in serum of control animals was inhibited by cycloheximide. The secretion of trypsin and chymotrypsin was also decreased.     

Metabolic implications in the elevation of serum activity of intestinal alkaline phosphatase in chronic renal failure

Summary The activity of intestinal isoenzyme of serum alkaline phosphatase was evaluated in 21 non-dialyzed patients with advanced renal failure and in 52 patients on regular hemodialysis. In patients without hepatopathy, a significant inverse correlation was found between the enzyme activity and serum calcium levels. Hepatopathy was the most significant variable influencing the enzyme activity in patients on dialysis. Secondary hyperparathyroidism and a decreased rate in enzyme elimination should be assessed for the above-normal activities of intestinal ALP in serum in chronic renal failure.
