Composition and novel pattern of emission of defensive scent oils in the larva of the contton seed bugOxycarenus hyalinipennis (Costa) (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae)

Summary differences in composition and pattern of eiission in the scent oils from the two abdominal scent glands in the larva ofOxycarenus hyalinipennis are reported. The scent oils contain hex-2-enal, oct-2-enal, dec-2-enal and 4-oxo-oct-2-enal.We thank D. E. Games for access to mass spectral facilities, M. Dopamine in the visual cortex of the cat

The endogenous content of noradrenaline (NA) and dopamine (DA) was determined by radioenzymatic assays in three different areas of the occipital (visual) cortex, in normal cats as well as in DA-deafferented animals. The use of HPLC methodology enabled us to detect and measure in addition two metabolites of DA: 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA), thus confirming the existence of a DA innervation in this cortical region.     

Diabetes alters drug metabolism--in vivo studies in a streptozotozin-diabetic rat model

The influence of experimental streptozotozin-induced diabetes on hepatic drug metabolism in vivo has been studied in rats, using 14CO2-exhalation after 14C-aminopyrine injection. Male diabetic rats showed a decreased (-18%), females an increased (+19%) 14CO2-exhalation compared to controls, indicating altered hepatic drug metabolism due to diabetes.     

Ultrastructural changes in uterine myometrium of mice with experimentally-induced adenomyosis

Summary Ectopic pituitary transplantation induced a high incidence of adenomyosis in SHN mice. Early signs of the development of adenomyosis were the penetration of stromal connective tissue into myometrium followed by uterine gland invasion. The analysis of free-sorting data: Beyond pairwise cooccurrences

Free-sorting data are obtained when subjects are given a set of objects and are asked to divide them into subsets. Such data are usually reduced by counting for each pair of objects, how many subjects placed both of them into the same subset. The present study examines the utility of a group of additional statistics. the cooccurrences of sets of three objects. Because there are dependencies among the pair and triple cooccurrences, adjusted triple similarity statistics are developed. Multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis — which usually use pair similarities as their input data — can be modified to operate on three-way similarities to create representations of the set of objects.
