Cytotoxicity of new cytochalasans fromChaetomium globosum

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass CHCl₃-Rohextrakte aus Myzelien und Filtraten der Zuchtmedien vonChaetomium globosum Kunze ex Fries einen akuten toxischen Effect auf HeLa-Zellen in vitro, sowie auf Mäuse zeigten. Chaetoglobosine die aus Mycelium-Rohextrakt isoliert wurden und chemisch zu den Cytochalasanen gehören, induzierten in HeLa-Zellen eine Polynukleierung und multipolare Kernverteilung. Auch beim Chaetogobosin wird eine Mikrofilament-Schädigung angenommen.     

Does tenotomy of skeletal muscle alter Z-line width in older animals?

Summary Results of unilateral achilles tenotomy on older (350–410 g) male rats, showed that the general width of Z-lines in the tenotomized muscles was not significantly altered by this procedure. Streaming of the Z-lines and rod formations was still present, as in younger rats.This investigation was supported in part by NIH grants 1-RO1-NS-14033 and 1-T32-07224.     

Purification of a protein binding quinacrine and histrionicotoxin from membrane fragments rich in cholinergic receptors in Torpedo marmorata]

A protein is purified by differential centrifugation from membrane fragments rich in acetylcholine receptor prepared from Torpedo marmorata electric organ after dissolution by a mixture of non denaturing detergents. After polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate and Coomassie blue staining the purified protein yields a single band of apparent molecular weight 43,000. Spectroscopic experiments carried out in the absence of Ca++ and detergents reveal that the 43 K protein interacts with the fluorescent local anesthetic quinacrine and with the frog toxin histrionicotoxin (apparent KD : 7 X 10(-7) M) but not with carbamylcholine and the alpha toxin from N. nigricollis.     

Cynodontin,the tetrahydroxyanthraquinone ofCurvularia andDrechslera species

Summary The red anthraquinone derivative isolated from several Drechslera and Curvularia species has been identified as cynodontin (1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone), and not as 1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxy-2,6-dimethylanthraquinone as reported earlier. Both pigments showed similar physico-chemical properties. A good distinction could be obtained by gas-liquid chromatography.     

Differentiation antigens in keratinocytes]

By means of indirect immunofluorescence with human sera it has been demonstrated that cytoplasmic components of the basal cell layer showed antigenic differences as compared to the upper cell layers. Moreover there were differences whether the cells were involved in a mucous, a parakeratinized or an orthokeratinized differentiation.     

Effect of orotic acid on liver glycogen of different animal species

Summary The effect of orotic acid on the liver glycogen content in the mice, frogs and catfish was studied. It was observed that the orotic acid significantly increases the glycogen content in the liver of mice and catfish as it does in rats. On the other hand it causes a fall of the glycogen level in frogs in experiments made both in autumn and spring. This effect was modified by amino acids administrated together with orotic acid.     

T4 gene 32 protein model for control of activity at replication fork.

Limited hydrolysis of gene 32 protein by various proteinases results in the production of three stable cleavage products. Two of these products show an affinity for native T4 DNA cellulose that the uncleaved protein does not exhibit. A model for proteolytic cleavage and for the total unwinding of DNA in advance of the replication fork is discussed in terms of this unusual binding affinity.     

Effect of lesions of the locus coeruleus complex on the circadian rhythm of plasma corticosterone in the mouse

Summary An apparently transient elevation of basal morning (08.00 h) plasma corticosterone levels in male mice was found 48 h after bilateral electrolytic lesions of the brainstem locus coeruleus complex but was not observed 6 weeks after lesioning.Supported by Alfred P.
