Bilinear correlation between tissue water content and diastolic stiffness of the ventricular myocardium

Summary In oedematous and dehydrated canine hearts a close bilinear correlation was demonstrated between myocardial water content and diastolic stiffness (characterized by the passive elastic modulus) with an optimal minimum of stiffness at normal myocardial water content.     

Suramin stimulates renal growth in the rat

Summary Suramin given to rats in a single high dose (20 mg/100 g i.v.) stimulated renal growth. Maximum changes are taking place after 6–9 days of treatment.Suramin (Bayer 205) was generously provided by bayer (Leverkusen, Federal Republic of Germany).The authors thank Miss J. Effect of taurine on mitogen response of human lymphocytes

Summary Taurine selectively inhibits the phytohemagglutinin-stimulated incorporation of³H-thymidine by human cultured lymphocytes (50% inhibition by 12.5 mM taurine). Decreasing effects of taurine on Na–K ATPase activity or on calcium accumulation by lymphocytes might be responsible for its action on cell proliferation.Thanks are due to Mr F. Zusammenfassung Es wurde eine Präponderanz der neutralen Mukopolysaccharide in der Epiphysealplatte der neonatal thymektomierten Mäuse beobachtet und das Phänomen diskutiert.     

Chemical structure and biological activity ofp-disubstituted derivatives of benzene

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die i.v. LD₅₀ einer Gruppep-disubstituierter Benzolderivate, welche alle Kombinationen der erwähnten Substituenten enthielten, in Polyvinylpyrrolidonlösungen bestimmt. Der Zusammenhang zwischen der chemischen Struktur dieser Verbindungsklasse und ihrer biologischen Aktivität konnte mit einer vorgeschlagenen Gleichung beschrieben werden.     

Physiological role of coronary constriction in the tortoise (Emys orbicularis L.)

Zusammenfassung Konstriktion der Herzkranzgefässe nach epicardialer Anwendung von Catecholaminen vermindert den O₂-Verbrauch des Schildkrötenherzens. Das Konstriktorsystem dieser Gefässe sichert eine rasche Anpassung des Herzstoffwechsels an den O₂-Mangel.     

Delayed hypersensitivity and antibody response in rheumatoid arthritis

Zusammenfassung Es wird über die immunologische Reaktivität von Patienten mit progressiver Polyarthritis berichtet. Nach Injektion von 25 E Streptokinase (Präparat Dornokinase) zeigten die Patienten eine gewisse Dissoziation der immunologischen Vorgänge: Herabsetzung der Hautreaktionen und erhöhte spezifische Antikörperreaktion.
