Effect of glucose administration on bilirubin excretion in the rabbit

Summary The effect of i.v. infusion of glucose on the hepatic handling of bilirubin was examined in rabbits. A significant increase in the excretion of conjugated bilirubin into the bile was observed, accompanied by a decrease in bilirubinemia. Hepatic bilirubin concentrations were lowered and the UDP-glucose concentrations and liver UDP-glucuronosyl and UDP-glucosyl transferase activities increased.

Summary Albino rats of both sexes were treated with epinephrine and norepinephrine for 3 months, while the control animals received the same quantity of physiological NaCl. At the end of this period, the rats were allowed to multiply freely in each group. The number of litters was recorded in each case. While epinephrine did not alter the litter-rate, norepinephrine decreased it significantly. The effect of neural stress on reproduction and its relation to the adrenomedullar hormones is discussed.     

Threshold for eliciting the hippocampal theta-rhythm by electrical stimulation in tegmentum and hypothalamus during cortical spreading depression in rats

Zusammenfassung Vorübergehende ein- oder beidseitige funktionelle Dekortikation mittels «spreading depression» ergibt bei elektrischer Reizung des Tegmentums oder Hypothalamus einen Schwellenanstieg des Weckeffektes. Die Reaktionsunterschiede der Hirnteile werden über die theta-Aktivität im Hippokampus beurteilt.     

Lipogenesis in rats adapted to intermittent starvation or continuous underfeeding

Zusammenfassung Albinoratten, bei denen zwischen die Fütterungstage 1–2tägige Hungerperioden eingesetzt wurden, zeigten nach 3 Wochen eine wesentlich erhöhte Inkorporation von 1-C¹⁴-Acetat in die Fettsäuren der Leberschnitte. Selbst bei Herabsetzung der Kalorienzufuhr um ca. 50% stieg hier, im Gegensatz zu kontinuierlich unterernährten Tieren, der prozentuale Körperfettgehalt. Die Resultate sprechen für eine Steigerung der Lipogenese.

Summary Reactions of phthalide and 6-chlorophthalide with sodium salts of thiophenols gaveo-(phenylmercaptomethyl)benzoic acids (III), which were cyclized by the action of polyphosphoric acid to 6, 11-dihydrodibenz(b,e)-thiepin-11-ones (1). These ketones were treated with 3-di-methylaminopropylmagnesium chloride and other basic Grignard reagents and the products (IV) dehydrated to a series of 11-(aminoalkylidene)-6,11-dihydrodibenz(b,e)-thiepins (V), the hydrochlorides of which show psychotropic activity.

Erycanosid,ein neues Herzglycosid ausErysimum canescens Roth

Summary By application of the counter-current method on extracts ofErysimum canescens Roth, four new crystalline glycosides have been isolated besides of Helveticoside and Erysimoside. The structure of one of them, named Erycanoside, has been determined as Strophanthidin--2-desoxy-D-glucosido-glucoside.
