Bombesin,calcitonin and leu-enkephalin immunoreactivity in endocrine cells of human lung

Summary By immunohistochemistry, bombesin, calcitonin and leu-enkephalin was localized in endocrine cells of human lungs from various age groups. It is suggested that at least 3 different peptide containing endocrine cells may be present in human lung.Acknowledgments. The effect of splenectomy on the development of experimental pyelonephritis

Summary Although an unusually high incidence of a variety of infections in infants who had undergone splenectomy has been reported by a number of investigators the subject remains somewhat controversial. In the present experiments the role of the spleen in the protection of rats against experimentally induced hematogenous pyelonephritis was studied. The results of this study suggest that the spleen has an important preventive function against bacterial infection.     

Ultrasonic vocalizations by adult prairie voles,Microtus ochrogaster

Summary Male and femaleMicrotus ochrogaster were presented with anesthetized and awake conspecifics while ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) were monitored. Males produced significantly more USVs than females during 5-min testing sessions. Males tended to produce more USVs to unfamiliar females than to familiar female siblings. Sexual experience led to increased USV scores by males. These results suggest that USVs by male prairie voles communicate to females the male's gender and his availability for reproductive behavior.     

Seasonal changes in the uptake capacity of the suprachiasmatic nucleus for3H-serotonin

Effect of chronic administration of morphine on primary immune response in mice

Summary The effect of 3 different doses of chronically-administered morphine on the primary immune response was studied in mice by estimating spleen/body weight ratio and serum hemolysin production against sheep red blood cells (SRBC). It was observed that morphine exerted a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the immune response which was antagonized by the concomitant administration of naloxone. The findings suggest that the inhibitory effect of morphine is specific.     

UV-induced increase in number of periventricular ‘Gomori-positive’ glial cells in brains of mice

Zusammenfassung Im vorderen Teil des 3. Ventrikels wurden periventrikuläre «Gomori-positive» Glizellen bei normalen und UV-bestrahlten weissen Mäusen gezählt und eine statistisch signifikante Erhöhung der Zellen nach 14, 21 und 28 Tagen täglicher UV-Bestrahlung festgestellt.     

Evidence for the existence of an outflow of noradrenaline nerve fibres in the ventral roots of the rat spinal cord

Zusammenfassung Mit histochemischer Fluoreszenzmethode und Axotomie wird die Ansicht gestützt, dass eine bestimmte Zahl von Nervenfasern, die von CA-Nervenzellen der supraspinalen Zentren stammen und entweder im Funiculus lateralis oder im Funiculus anterior des Rückenmarkes absteigen, das Rückenmark über ventrale Wurzeln verlassen und die Spinalganglien ohne Unterbrechung passieren.     

Regeneration of plants from mesophyll protoplasts ofAtropa belladonna

Summary Isolated leaf mesophyll protoplasts ofAtropa belladonna when cultured in defined liquid culture media regenerate cell walls, divide and form calli.
