Résumé Par passage en série sur des cellules en culture et en présence de 5-iodo-2-desoxyuridine (IUdR) on a obtenu une souche de virus herpétique résistant à l'IUdR. Cette souche est très peu virulente chez la souris et le lapin, mais est capable de protéger ces animaux contre le virus pathogène d'origine.

The effect of epinephrine on granulocyte adhesion

Summary Preincubation of blood from normal human volunteers with epinephrine significantly decreased the granulocytes ability to adhere to nylon fibres. Possible significance for the in vivo correlation is discussed.Acknowledgment. Ms Christine Woldanski provided technical assistance.     

Zur Frage der genetischen Änderung eines Ascites-Hepatoms der Ratte durch Heterotransplantation auf chinesische Hamster

Summary Heterotransplantation of the rat hepatoma of Zajdela into golden hamsters, mice and Chinese hamsters has induced virtually no change in the neoplasm. The host tissues have shown, however, a 1% increase in their own mitoses, which is attributed to growth stimulation by the tumor.     

Effect of lidoflazine on norepinephrine,angiotensin and serotonin responses in isolated smooth muscle preparations

Résumé Les effets de la lidoflazine ont été étudiés sur les bandelettes aortiques isolées du lapin et les bandelettes gastriques isolées du rat. La lidoflazine antagonise significativement la sérotonine sur ces 2 préparations sans altérer leurs réponses à l'angiotensine et à la noradrénaline.     

Changes in the activities of protein kinase modulators in the cerebellum of mice due to ethanol, caffeine, or phenobarbital administration.

Decreased activities of both the inhibitory modulator of adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase (A-PK) as well as the stimulatory modulator of guanosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cGMP)-dependent protein kinase (G-PK) from the mouse cerebellum were noted due to the administration of excessive doses of ethanol, caffeine, and phenobarbital for up to 28 days. The dose-dependent of the inhibition of A-PK or the stimulation of G-PK was observed as a function of the amount of protein kinase modulators in the cerebellum of mice receiving different doses of ethanol.     

Effect of bilateral adrenalectomy and parenteral betamethasone on gastric mucosal mast cell population in albino rats

Summary The histamine-laden mast cells gastric mucosa in albino rats are shown to degranulate on administration of Betamethasone, but they increase in number in adrenalectomized rats. It is concluded that Betamethasone, and also adrenal glucocorticoids incrase gastric secretion by liberating histamine from mast cells and histamine in turn acts on the gastric glands.     

The effect of L-dopa on pupillary diameter in mice

Summary Injection of L-dopa in mice produces dose-dependent mydriasis. Pre-treatment with peripheral dopa-decarboxylase inhibitors (carbidopa and benserazide) or with an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent (phentolamine) abolishes the pupillary dilation caused by L-dopa. Pretreatment with fusaric acid, an inhibitor of dopamine-beta-hydroxylase, also antagonizes the mydriatic effect of L-dopa. Thus, our results suggest that the mydriasis produced in mice following the injection of L-dopa is caused by its peripheral conversion to noradrenaline, which stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in the dilator iridis.
