The chromosomes ofMarmosa fuscata thomas,from northern Venezuela (Marsupialia,Didelphidae)

Resumen Los cromosomas deMarmosa fuscata (subgéneroMarmosops), estudiados por cultivo de tejidos en base a 4 individuos de la Cordillera de la Costa en el norte de Venezuela, resultaron diferir de los deMarmosa robinsoni sólo en el quinto y sexto par de autosomas, metacéntricos en la primera y subtelocéntricos en la segunda especie. Con todo, se encuentran mayores diferencias entre los cariotipos de estas 2 especies que entre los deM. robinsoni yCaluromys derbianus.     

A medium to demonstrate the ligninolytic activity of some fungi

Zusammenfassung Es wird hier eine neue Methode angeführt, um die holzauflösende Fähigkeit einiger Pilze zu bestimmen. Ein milchiges, homogenes Agarmedium wird hergestellt, indem man kugelgemahlenes Buchensägemehl als hauptsächliche Kohlenstoffquelle benutzt. Wenn man in dieses Medium bestimmte holzzerstörende Pilze einpflanzt, wird sowohl ihre holzspaltende als auch ihre zellulosezerstörende Wirkung dadurch gezeigt, dass das Medium unter dem Wurzelgeflecht sich aufklärt.     

Nachbargruppeneffekt des Pyridinringes beschleunigt alkalische Ester-Hydrolyse

Summary A structural analogue of benzoylcholine is prepared in which the trimethylamino group is replaced by a pyridine ring. Rate measurements are presented to demonstrate that the pyridinium ester I undergoes alkaline hydrolysis faster than the choline ester II. It is suggested that the abnormal rate is due to an unusual type of neighbouring group effect involving anchimeric participation of the pyridine ring.

Zusammenfassung In der Arbeit wird eine Einrichtung für kontinuierliche Flüssigkeitszufuhr beschrieben, wie sie für Gewebskulturen wertvoll sein kann. Durch eine feinporöse Membran kann die Menge der Flüssigkeit reguliert werden.
