Zur Bindung von Biliverdin an das Protein im Crenilabrus-Blau

Summary The blue biliprotein from the fins of the Mediterranean fishCrenilabrus pavo C.V. was analysed with respect to linkages between colouring matter (biliverdin IX) and apoprotein. It was shown by chromic oxidation under various conditions and determination of degradation products that one of the outer and one of the inner rings of biliverdin are free. The remaining inner ring is bound to the apoprotein presumably by an ester bond, while the lability of the linkage between one outer ring and apoprotein corresponds to a N-acyl-bond.     

Investigation of the N and P losses in different media used for inert dehydration

Résumé Les auteurs ont examiné les possibilités de diminution du contenu en azote et phosphore dans le foie du Rat au cours de l'«inert dehydration». La diminution la plus marquée a été observée après l'incubation dans une solution de glycol éthylène à 50% et de dextrose à 80%.     

Nephrocompensatory growth following thymectomy

Summary Thymectomy performed 28 days before unilateral nephrectomy produced significant inhibition in compensatory renal growth (CRG) in 3–6-month-old rats. Sera from thymectomized animals are not deprived of their renotrophic activity, but thymectomy of serum recipients almost abolished the capability of renotrophic serum to produce CRG.Supported by the Research Fund of Croatia, Yugoslavia.     

A quantitative method for measuring the uptake of colloidal carbon by mouse tissues

Résumé On décrit une méthode spectrophotométrique quantitative pour la détermination de la répartition du carbone colloÏdal dans les organes d'une seule souris. La sensibilité de la méthode est de 0,25l de la suspension de carbone colloÏdal C11/1431a. La rate est le tissu qui a présenté la plus grande capacité de fixation du carbone. Elle est suivie par la moelle osseuse, la foie et les poumons.

Zusammenfassung Die in den Samen der Erbse (Pisum sativum L.) und der Linse (Lens esculenta Moench) enthaltenen Phythämagglutinine reagieren spezifisch auf einige Kohlehydratsubstanzen. Mono- und Oligosaccharide, welche die Agglutinationswirkung dieser Phythämagglutinine hemmen, bewirken auch eine Erhöhung ihrer elektrophoretischen Wanderungsgeschwindigkeit auf Stärkegel. Diese Beschleunigung ist der Hemmwirkung direkt proportionell entgegengesetzt.     

Einfluss des Schwefeldioxids auf den Gehalt freier Saccharide und Aminosäuren in Erbsen-Keimpflanzen

Summary The influence of gaseous 1% sulphur dioxide during 24, 48, 72 and 96 h on saccharide and amino acid content, has been studied on 14–15-day old green and etiolated pea seedlings. In roots and shoots of intoxicated seedlings of both sorts, there was found a marked decrease of sucrose and a marked increase of glucose and fructose content, most probably as a consequence of disturbed sucrose biosynthesis. In cotyledons, roots and shoots there was also found an increase of alanine and a decrease of glutamic acid content.     

‘Insulin-like’ action of an oxytocin analogue lacking a disulphide group,and of a cystathionine peptide related to a sequence of insulin,on rat epididymal adipose tissue in vitro

Zusammenfassung Es wird mittels synthetischer Peptide (Ib, II) bewiesen, dass eine Disulphidgruppe für die « insulinähnliche » Wirkung von mit dem Oxytocin verwandten Peptiden am Fettgewebe der Rattenepididymis nicht notwendig ist. Somit wird ein von Disulphidaustausch abhängiger Wirkungsmechanismus ausgeschlossen.     

Über den Einfluss desd,l-Methioninsulfoximins auf den Eiweißstoffwechsel bei Erbsen

Summary The influence of thed,l-Methioninesulphoximine on the nitrogen metabolism of germinating seeds has been studied on peas. It has been shown thatd,l-Methioninesulphoximine, even at low concentrations, inhibited the germination of seeds and produced a decrease of growth of the roots. The inhibited germinating seeds contained less non-protein-nitrogen and less asparagine than the control plants. On the basis of the experimental results,d,l-Methioninesulphoximine could be considered as an inhibitor of proteolysis.
