Changes of glutamine,glutamic acid and GABA in cortical and subcortical brain structures of hibernating and fully aroused ground squirrels (Citellus citellus)

Résumé On étudie ici la teneur en glutamine, en acide glutamique et en GABA dans des différentes parties du cerveau chez le Spermophile en sommeil hivernal profond et après le réveil de l'hibernation. Les changements les plus remarquables de l'acide glutamique et du GABA ont été constatés dans les structures sous-corticales regardées comme essentielles pour la régulation de ces processus physiologiques coordonnés.     

The action of 5-hydroxy-dl-tryptophan and 5-hydroxy-tryptamine on the cortical electrical activity of the ‘midpontine pretrigeminal preparation’

Riassunto Il 5HTP, direttamente iniettato nel circolo cerebrale, produce un quadro elettroencefalografico di sonno, indipendente da modificazioni di flusso nel circolo cerebrale e da eventuali metaboliti che si formano al di fuori del cervello. La 5HT, iniettata nelle stesse condizioni, o è senza effetto o dà una reazione elettroencefalografica di risveglio.     

Ein chemisch und pharmakologisch neuartiger Antagonist von pathophysiologisch bedeutsamen Aminen,Kininen und kininbildenden Faktoren

Summary CIBA 21 401-Ba, a glucofuranoside derivative (ethyl-3,5,6-O-benzyl-d-glucofuranoside), antagonizes in vitro the smooth-muscle action of a large number of biogenic amines and polypeptides, the accelerated migration of leucocytes induced by endotoxin, and the Schultz-Dale phenomenon. In vivo, the compound shows anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects and improves the survival rate of infected mice treated with suboptimal doses of a sulphonamide.     

Polyadenylate-polyuridylate enhancement of 7,12-dimethylbenz-anthracene skin carcinogenesis

Summary Double-stranded polynucleotide polyadenylate-polyuridylate (Poly AU) enhanced skin tumor formation in Swiss mice by 75% when injected prior to a single application of 7,12-dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA). When given after the carcinogen application Poly AU did not significantly enhance tumor formation.Acknowledgment. The authors wish to thank J. Rowland for technical help.     

Carcinogenesis in different animal species by diethylnitrosamine

Zusammenfassung Die hepato-cancerogene Wirkung von Diäthylnitrosamin konnte an 11 verschiedenen Tierarten in chronisch-toxikologischen Untersuchungen nachgewiesen werden. Die zur Krebserzeugung benötigten Gesamtdosen liegen bei allen Tierarten in der gleichen Grössenordnung. Auch beim Menschen ist eine leberkrebserzeugende Wirkung von Diäthylnitrosamin sehr wahrscheinlich.     

Avilamycin

Summary A strain ofStreptomyces viridochromogenes produced a new crystalline antibiotic, Avilamycin, related to but not identical with Curamycin and Exfoliatin. Avilamycin, C₆₃H₉₄O₃₅Cl₂, gave on solvolytic degradation the following products: dichloroisoeverninic acid, 2-deoxy-d-rhamnose, 2,6-di-O-methylmannose, 4-O-methylfucose,l-lyxose and 3,5-diacetoxy--caprolactone.

Summary It has been shown that local application of a mixture of precipitating antiserum with homologous plasma or serum promotes markedly the growth of granuloma tissue in the rat.

Summary The composition of the volatile fractions (isolated by acidic steam distillation) of the spores, substrate mycelium and fruiting body of the common mushroom is investigated. The physiological and/or biochemical functions of some of the identified substances are discussed.     

Parathymische Lymphknoten der Maus und ihre Reaktion auf Thymektomie

Summary The effect of complete and partial, neonatal thymectomy on parathymic lymphnodes was investigated in NMRI-mice. The results indicate that neonatal extirpation of thymic tissue causes an increase in size and number of parathymic lymphnodes.
