In vitro associations of tomato plants andRhizobium; induction of nitrogenase activity

Summary In vitro associations of the non-legumeLycopersicum esculentum andRhizobium sp. cowpea 32H1 were established. Tomato plants induced rhizobial nitrogenase activity. Induction of nitrogenase activity was possible through a membrane which was impermeable for bacteria.     

Stimulation of glucagon and inhibition of insulin secretion evoked from carotid baroreceptors

Summary The influence from carotid baroreceptors on portal immuno-reactive glucagon and insulin levels and on arterial plasma glucose concentration was studied in vagotomized cats by sectioning of the sinus nerves. Such a complete elimination of the afferent baroreceptor discharge caused a prompt and pronounced increase in the glucose and glucagon levels, whereas the insulin concentration significantly decreased. The role of vascular baroreceptors in the hyperglycemic response to hemorrhage is discussed.     

Highly purified noradrenaline storage vesicles from bovine splenic nerve trunk: Preliminary electron microscopy

Résumé Les vésicules de la NA du nerf splénique de Buf ont été obtenues par gradient de centrifugation («sucrose-heavy water»), Le rapport NA/protéine observé est de 4 à 7 fois plus élevé que celui qui a été mentionné précédemment. L'examen préliminaire de cette fraction, par microscopie électronique, révèle une couche importante et pratiquement pure de vésicules à la surface du sédiment.

Summary Streptococcus pyogenes haemolyticus grown in glucose broth is capable of producing or liberating a heat-stable factor of high molecular weight which stimulates the emigration of leucocytesin vitro, only if certain animal organs are present.     

Use of the isolated heart of a freshwater mussel (Anodonta cygnea L.) for biological estimation of 5-hydroxytryptamine

Zusammenfassung Die rhythmischen Kontraktionen des isolierten Herzventrikels vonAnodonta werden von 5-Hydroxy-Tryptamin niedriger Konzentration beschleunigt und verstärkt. Adrenalin, Noradrenalin, Histamin, Acetylcholin, Tyramin usw, wesentlich höherer Konzentrationen haben keine oder nur geringe Wirkungen. DasAnodonta-Herz-Präparat scheint deshalb für den biologischen Nachweis von 5-Hydroxy-Tryptamin (Serotonin, Enteramin) geeignet.

On the biomechanical function of the liver capsule

Summary We have carried out histomechanical studies on the human and bovine liver capsule under tension loading. Results: Nonlinear force-time curve under extension with constant speed, initial upper and lower summit decrease of the dynamic relaxation curve, amplitude diminution phenomenon of the dynamic relaxation in the lower nonlinear part of the extension-time curve, dynamic (cyclic) force recovery.Acknowledgments.
