Preparation of specific antiserum against Rana esculenta pre-alpha lens crystallin.

Specific antiserum against Rana esculenta lens pre-alpha crystallin was prepared in a rabbit by injecting antigen-antibody precipitate of this crystallin obtained from immunoelectrophoresis of esculenta total soluble lens proteins against homologous antiserum.     

Effects of penfluridol of dopamine-sensitive adenylate cyclase in corpus striatum and substantia nigra of rats.

Penfluridol, a neuroleptic with diphenylbutyl piperidine structure, blocked the dopamine-sensitive adenylate cyclase in homogenates of corpus striatum and substantia nigra of rats, probably by a competitive antagonism versus dopamine.     

Distribution of type A and B monamine oxidase activities in the central nervous system of rat and chick.

The distribution of type A and B monamine oxidase (MAO) activities in the central nervous system (CNS) of rat and chick was investigated using 5-hydroxytryptamine and beta-phenylethylamine as specific substrates. The distribution of type A MAO was similar to that of type B MAO in rat CNS, but quite different in chick CNS. This may be ascribed to the difference in animal species. The major part of MAO activity in the spinal cord was found to be type A.     

Gastric mucus effusion elicited by oral copper compounds: potential anti-ulcer activity.

In rats, both Cu(I) and Cu(II) show an irritancy profile not shared with Cu degrees or Zn(II) or Ni(II). The gastric response to Cu(II), i.e. copius fluid and mucus secretion, can protect the stomach from the acute ulcerative effects of aspirin or physical stress administered subsequently.     

Anionic activation of human salivary amylase.

In all earlier studies on alpha-amylase, the influence of different ions were studied in phosphate buffer. The present report shows the effect of different ions individually with Tris and amino acid. Though it has been claimed recently that sodium ion is an activator of alpha-amylase, this study reconfirms that sodium ion does not activate human salivary amylase.
