All together now: The circular organization in a university Hospital. Part II. Implementation

The first part of this two-part series described the initial impetus driving a university hospital's planned change project, the planning process itself, and the interventions that were identified to meet our goals. This article describes and discusses the interventions—the implementation of our version of Ackoff's circular organization and issues related to barriers, selected outcomes, the change process, evaluation, and the project's significance to nursing.

A new model of glucocorticoid-induced metanephric maldevelopment

Summary A new experimental model of glucocortocoid-induced tubular cyst formation has been developed in metanephric organ culture. The addition of cortisol (1.4×10^–5 M) to chemically defined serum-free culture medium produces cystic changes during in vitro nephrogenesis. The model isolates the role of glucocorticoids in experimental cyst formation.Acknowledgment. Squalene and other unsaturated hydrocarbons,inBryocladia cuspidata

Summary By gas chromatography-electron impact mass spectrometry the red algaBryocladia cuspidata, was found to contain n-pentadecane and n-heptadecane. Gas chromatography-chemical ionization mass spectrometry indicated the presence of squalene as well as a C₂₁ pentaene and a C₂₁ hexaene, tentatively identified as 1,6,9,12,15-heneicosapentaene and 1,6,9,12,15,18-heneicosahexaene.Acknowledgments. Synaptic boutons in the hippocampus: Changes are produced by age and experience

Zusammenfassung Erstmaliger morphometrischer Nachweis bei 2 Gruppen reifer, altersunterschiedlicher Ratten, dass die Zahl der Synapsen im Hippocampus mit dem Alter zunimmt, wobei die effektive Steigerungsrate auch mit Umwelteinflüssen zusammenhängen könnte.

Respiratory alkalosis in a panting lizard (Sauromalus obesus)

Experimental alteration of biomagnetic interactions among bean seeds

Summary Interactional patterns among bean-seed (Phaseolus vulgaris) clusters distributed on a table differed statistically significantly between when in clockwise rotating fields (table or magnetic) and when in counterclockwise fields or as nonrotating controls. It is postulated that clockwise rotation shortens the range of interactions.The author expresses his gratitude to Carol S. Chow and Kate M.
