Some factors modifying the action of chlorpromazine upon the O2 uptake of brain homogenatesin vitro

Zusammenfassung Largactil vermindert auch in niedrigen Konzentrationen (10⁻⁶ g/ml der Krebs-Ringer-L?sung mit 0,2% Glukose) den Sauerstoffverbrauch von Gehirnhomogenaten weisser Ratten signifikant. Diese depressive Wirkung von Largactil tritt nicht ein, wenn die Krebs-Ringer-L?sung ohne Glukose oder ein kalziumfreies Medium zu den manometrischen Messungen gebraucht werden. Weiterhin hat Largactil eine antagonistische Wirkung gegen 2,4-Dinitrophenol in bezug auf die O₂-Aufnahme von Gehirngewebe.      

Dimethyltryptamin: Its metabolism in man; the relation of its psychotic effect to the serotonin metabolism

Zusammenfassung Es wird festgestellt, dass Dimethyltryptamin — bei normalen Versuchspersonen — eine dem Meskalin und dem LSD-25 ähnliche psychotische Wirkung hat. Der durch Dimethyltryptamin induzierte Zustand beginnt schon 3–5 min nach Injektion und verschwindet bereits nach 1 h. Der Urin der Versuchspersonen wurde papier-chromatographisch und kolorimetrisch auf Indolverbindungen geprüft. 3-Indolylessigsäure wird als hauptsächlichstes Abbauprodukt des Dimethyltryptamins gefunden, wovon der grösste Teil in alkali-labiler Form gebunden ist. Die Menge der ausgeschiedenen 5-Hydroxy-indolylessigsäure ist nach dem Versuch wesentlich grösser als vorher. Die Stoffwechselzusammenhänge mit dem psychotischen Zustand werden diskutiert.

Zusammenfassung Zur Prüfung der Strahlenresistenz vonEscherichia coli nach bewährter Methode wird Acriflavin, ein DNA-Reparaturhemmer, zugegeben und es wird festgestellt, dass die Strahlenresistenz auch unter Cysteinschutz sinkt.     

The effects of acetylation on the binding region of cartilage proteoglycans to hyaluronic acid

Summary Proteoglycans in cartilage are found as aggregates and as monomers. Evidence has been obtained indicating that hyaluronic acid, normally present in this tissue, binds together monomers into large molecular weight aggregates. In this investigation, the interacting region of the protein backbone has been studied. The results unequivocally demonstrated that the epsilon amino groups of lysine are involved in hyaluronic acid binding to proteoglycans and that their blocking by acetylation either prevents reaggregation or disaggregates the high mol. w aggregates.Supported by a grant from the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Rome, Italy, and U.
