Paraventricular neurones in the rat hypothalamic slice: Lucifer Yellow injection and immunocytochemical identification

Summary Intracellular records were obtained from paraventricular neurones injected with Lucifer Yellow in slices from the rat hypothalamus. Slices containing fluorescent neurones were then serially cut and alternating sections were stained immunocytochemically for vasopressin or oxytocin. Double-labelled cells were found which fluoresced and which had reacted with either vasopressin, or oxytocin antiserum.This study was supported in part by grant 3.469.79 from the Swiss National Science Foundation.     

Intrarenally induced infection in rats: Kidney infecting dose and sex dependence

Zusammenfassung LebendeE. coli-Bakterien wurden bei Ratten direkt in die Niere injiziert. Für die Infektion war eine bestimmte Mindest-Keimmenge erforderlich. Bei Injektion höherer Dosen (Chronizität) überstanden die männlichen Tiere die Infektion offenbar schneller und leichter als die weiblichen.     

Carcinogenesis and inhibited biosynthesis of soluble mouse skin proteins by actidione

Zusammenfassung Actidion hemmt die Synthese löslicher Proteine der Mäusehaut, reduziert die Bindung lokal applizierter Karzinogene (BP und DMBA) an lösliche Proteine, ohne die Tumorausbeute imBerenblum-Experiment zu beeinflussen.     

Highly elevated content of free myo-inositol in the cerebrospinal fluid of neonates

Summary Free myo-inositol in cerebrospinal fluid was determined in 60 babies aged from newborn to 12 months. In the neonates, a high inositol concentration was found (18–81 mg/100 ml). With increasing age, the values gradually decreased. The finding is discussed in relation to the maturation processes in central nervous tissue.     

Zur Stereochemie der enzymatischen Dehydrierung von Butyryl-CoA

Summary The stereochemistry of the formation of crotonyl CoA from butyryl CoA catalyzed by the appropriate pig liver enzyme was investigated using samples of butyric acid specifically labelled with tritium in the two methylene groups. It is shown that oxidation involves specific removal of the pro-R hydrogen atoms from positions 2 and 3 of the substrate.     

Der Nachweis des Barbiturateffektes an der isolierten Warmblüternetzhaut

Summary Barbiturates cause an increase of the ERG amplitude in the isolated perfused retina of the rabbit as well as in the eye of the intact animal. Therefore, this effect cannot be transmitted by centrifugal fibres in the optic nerve.     

Inhibition of liver lactate dehydrogenase by serotonin: Possible relationship to endotoxin effects

Zusammenfassung Serotonin hemmt die Lactatdehydrogenase im Lebercytosol von Kaninchen in vitro. Für eine 10%ige Aktivitätshemmung gegenüber den Kontrollwerten genügte eine durchschnittliche Konzentration von 9,15 /ml, die nur etwa zweimal höher liegt als der normale Blutspiegel. Dieser Effekt ist möglicherweise an der im Verhältnis zum Sauerstoffdefizit auffallend geringen Lactatbildung im Endotoxinschock beteiligt.
