Zusammenfassung Mystus vittatus zeigt unter natürlichen Bedingungen jahreszeitliche Variationen des TSH Gehaltes der Hypophyse. Veränderung der Lichtverhältnisse kann diesen TSH Zyklus beeinflussen: Dauerlicht verschiebt die Phasen, Dauerdunkel unterdrückt die zyklischen Veränderungen auf einen geringen Aktivitätsgrad.     

Free amino acids in the testes ofGryllotalpa africana beauvois (Orthoptera,Gryllidae)

Zusammenfassung Zweidimensionale Chromatographie der Hoden vonG. africana ergibt das Vorkommen von elf Aminosäuren: Leucin (Isoleucin), Valin, Prolin, Tyrosin, Alanin, Glycin, Serin, Glutaminsäure und Asparaginsäure. Höchste Konzentration fand sich bei Prolin und Asparaginsäure, niedrigste bei Serin und Tyrosin.

Zusammenfassung Beim amerikanischen WelsMystus vittatus (Bloch) wurde festgestellt, dass die Radiojodaufnahme der Schilddrüse nach Hypophysektomie durch Cortison und Sexualhormone wieder normalisiert werden kann.

Occurrence of carotid labyrinth in the catfish group of teleost fishes

Summary A structure similar in topography and morphology to the carotid labyrinth of amphibians has been found in 4 catfishes, namely,Clarias batrachus, Heteropneustes fossilis, Rita rita andMystus seenghala. The present finding of the presence of the carotid labyrinth in fishes is the first report, and the results are discussed in the light of the amphibious habit of these catfishes.We are grateful to Prof. U.S. Srivastava for providing laboratory facilities and for encouragement.
