The control of contraction activation by the membrane potential

Summary Force measurements under voltage-clamp control were performed in short toe muscles of the frog. The results show a) that the activation of force development and its repriming process can at least qualitatively be correlated to charge movement kinetics; b) that caffeine improves EC coupling by potentiating the potential dependent activation process.This work was supported by DFG (SFB 114 Bionach) and DAAD.

Summary Sedimentation and diffusion coefficients, partial specific volume, intrinsic viscosity, ATP-ase activity and molecular weight of cardiac myosin from calf hearts were determined. The values agree well with the results ofMueller et al.⁴ for cardiac myosin of the dog, and are not essentially different from values reported for skeletal myosins.¹

Variability of the bohr effect in man

Riassunto L'effetto Bohr è notevolmente e significativamente più elevato nei diabetici che negli individui normali. Si dimostra che tale differenza non è dovuta ad un cambiamento nella molecola dell'emoglobina, ma alla presenza di un cofattore diverso da quelli noti e cioé dai fosfati organici ATP e 2–3 DPG.     

The effect of anoxia and of muscle activity on the lymphatic and venous transport of lactate dehydrogenase

Zusammenfassung Nach 3 1/2 stündiger Muskelischämie wurde bei Hunden mit Ductus thoracicus-Fistel eine signifikante Zunahme der Milchsäuredehydrogenase-Aktivität im Blutserum und in der Lymphe der anoxischen Extremität bei gleichzeitiger signifikanter arterovenöser Aktivitätsdifferenz beobachtet. Auch Muskelarbeit verursachte eine Erhöhung der Enzymaktivität im Serum und in der Lymphe. Durch Unterbrechen der Verbindung zwischen Venen und Lymphsystem konnte das direkte Eindringen des Enzymproteins in die Blutkapillaren bewiesen werden.

Zusammenfassung Mutagenitätsuntersuchungen von Rifampicin anDrosophila melanogas (X-chromosomale rezessive Letalmutationen) und an menschlichen Leukozytenchromosomen in vitro ergaben keine Anhaltspunkte für eine genetische Wirksamkeit dieser Substanz.
