Investigations into the effects of ACTH on the half-life of mitochondrial proteins in the rat adrenal cortex

Summary ACTH elongates the half-life of the mitochondrial proteins from the rat adrenal cortex, and chloramphenicol inhibits this effect of ACTH. The hypothesis is advanced that the ACTH-provoked stabilization of the adrenocortical mitochondrial proteins requires continuous mitochondrial DNA-dependent protein synthesis.     

Purification of a nuclease from human serum

Summary The purification procedure for a nuclease from human serum is described. It includes ammonium sulfate precipitation, chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and on Sephacryl-S 200, and preparative electrophoresis. The enzyme, purified about 2000-fold, is homogeneous in a sodium dodecyl sulfate electrophoretic system, where it has a mol. wt of 78,000. The pH optimum lies around pH 6.5; it is a sugar-nonspecific endonuclease.Acknowledgment. Connection between membrane adenosinetriphosphatase activity and potassium transport in erythrocyte ghosts

Zusammenfassung In ATP angereicherten menschlichen Erythrocytenstroma konnte zwischen Ouabainempfindlicher Membran-ATPase-Aktivität und aktiver K⁺-Akkumulation ein Zusammenhang festgestellt werden: die Hydrolyse eines ATP-Moleküls ist mit der Akkumulation von zwei K⁺-Ionen verbunden.     

Absence of effects of dibutyryl cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate on release of alpha-amylase, 45Ca efflux, and protein synthesis in rat pancreas in vitro.

Dibutyryl cyclic GMP did not affect basal, or carbachol stimulated secretion of alpha-amylase from rat pancreas. The nucleotide did not have a significant effect on 45Ca release from the pancreas nor did it alter the response to carbachol. The dibutyryl analogue of cyclic GMP did not duplicate or alter the inhibitory effect of carbachol on 3H-leucine incorporation into pancreatic trichloroacetic acid-precipitable protein.     

A glycoprotein: galactosyltransferase activity in the ascitic fluid and serum of mice with the YC8 tumor]

Tranfer of (14C)-gal from exogenous UDP(14C)-gal has been demonstrated with ovomucoid as glycoprotein acceptor in ascitic fluid sera from Balb/c mice bearing isogenic YC8 tumor. Transfer exists without ovomucoid, in great ratio in ascitic fluid and in sera from ascitic mice too, showing occurrence of endogenous acceptors, the origin of which has to be proved.     

Adaptation of the pituitary gland to prolonged LRH stimulation

Summary With prolonged constant rate infusion of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LRH), the LH secretion rate of the rat pituitary gland changes continuously until a steady state of relative desensitization has developed. Recovery from this state can occur independently from changes in the pituitary's LH content.     

X-ray diffraction of the collagen contained in blood vessels]

An X-ray diffraction study has been undertaken on Human and Rabbit blood-vessels. Vessels are stretched 500% and the diagrams present a great analogy with those obtained from collagen. Thus, it appears, that it is possible to determine by X-Rays some pathological anomalies of the collagen in vessels.
