Granules of Langerhans cells in the thymus contain gold

The granules of Langerhans cells in the thymus of the rat were subjected to X-ray microanalysis. It was established that gold is present in these morphological structures.     

Effects of 9.4 GHz microwave exposure on meiosis in mice

Summary Exposure to 9.4 GHz pulsed microwaves at low power densities for 1 h/day during 2 weeks induces in adult male Balb/c mice disturbances in meiosis, consisting in an increase of translocations and the appearance of cells with several chromosome pair remaining univalents at MI.Acknowledgments. Effect of chloroform on the regenerating renal tubular epithelium in mouse

Résumé Chez la souris, après l'injection de la première dose de chloroforme, la seconde dose entraîne la nécrose segmentaire de l'épithélium tubulaire rénal, depuis le huitième jour de sa régénération. Après la seconde dose, la nécrose tubulaire a une moins grande extension.

Some properties of external NADH oxidation by human placental mitochondria

Summary Isolated human term placenta mitochondria catalyse oxidation of external NADH in the presence of cytochrome c. This reaction is insensitive to the respiratory chain inhibitors such as rotenone and antimycin A, and is not coupled to phosphorylation. Comparison of the effect of Mg⁺⁺ ion on NADH plus cytochrome c oxidation by human term placental, human skeletal muscle and rat skeletal mitochondria showed that Mg⁺⁺ ion exerts an inhibitory effect in the case of human mitochondria and a stimulatory effect in the case of rat skeletal muscle mitochondria.This work has been supported by a grant from Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology within the project No. 01.02.
