Amino acid excretion patterns in the offspring of a ‘doubly-heterozygous’ cystine stone former

Résumé L'analyse des acides aminés de la cystinurie du type I-III dans l'urine de deux enfants d'un hétérozygote double a révélé que les quantité d'acides aminés dibasiques excrétées en 24 h sont celles qui furent trouvées chez les hétérozygotes de la cystinurie du type III. Les données expérimentales s'accordent sur ce point que les types biochimiquement hétérogènes de la cystinurie sont règiés par des allèles.

Adaptation of intestinal amino acid transport

Zusammenfassung An evertierten Dünndarmsäcken (proximales Jejunum) erwachsener Ratten, die zwei Wochen lang eine proteinarme (13% Kasein) oder proteinreiche (88% Kasein) Diät erhalten hatten, wurde der aktive intestinale Transport vonl-Leuzin undd-Galaktose untersucht. Proteinreiche Ernährung führte zu einer Stimulierung desl-Leuzin-Transports, während derd-Galaktose-Transport dadurch unbeeinflusst blieb. Diese Befunde sprechen für eine spezifische Adaptation des intestinalen Aminosäurentransports an den Proteingehalt der Nahrung.     

Laser-induced excitation of fluorescein isothiocyanate in the immunofluorescence

Zusammenfassung Methode für die Anregung des FITC in der Immunofluoreszenz mit Argon-Laser-Licht, die eine sehr starke Fluoreszenz ermöglicht. Diese Methode wird in dem FTA-ABS-Test für Syphilis benutzt.     

Fusion polypeptides in gene cloning: potential problems due to conformational alterations at the junction

Many eukaryotic genes are cloned in bacterial hosts as fusion polypeptides. Prediction of the secondary structures for some common prokaryotic fusion polypeptides shows that many junction sites correspond to important secondary structures. It is suggested that such structures could affect (hinder, etc.) the conformation or drive the folding of the neighboring eukaryotic counterparts. Thus the prokaryotic junction should be better performed in random coil regions, or short fusion prokaryotic polypeptides should be used.     

Hormonal manipulation of carrageenin-induced pyresis in rats

Summary The intensity of the hyperthermic response in rats promoted by subplantar injection of 1 mg of carrageenin is directly related to the irritant properties of the type of carrageenin. The overall pyretic response is more dramatic in female rats than in male rats. Subtle changes in the time-course hyperthermic profiles are seen after hormonal modifications.This work was supported by NIH, MBS research grant No. RR08111.     

Responses evoked by stimulation of the acoustic pathway during the sleep-wakefulness cycle

Riassunto Lo studio delle risposte evocate nelle radiazioni acustiche e nelle arec acustiche primarie da stimolazione delle vie uditive centrali dimostra che: (a) la trasmissione degli impulsi ascendenti a livello del corpo genicolato mediale è facilitata sia durante il sonno profondo che al risveglio mentre, (b) l'eccitabilità corticale è maggiore durante il sonno leggero.
